Anyone have any info on xyz anchors. While it looks and sounds very promising I'm wondering if it would even fit on my current bow roller. My Bruce sits like it was made for the 25D's roller. And I must have my primary anchor ready to go on the bow roller...

Doesn't it though....Domenic wrote:Think I would buy one , just because it looks so cool and beautiful.
I'm also curious to know if the shank un-bolts from the fluke assembly. From the drawings it appears that a series of bolts hold the two together... I'm going to email xyz this evening and ask.. IF it comes apart I could then store it for when I need extra holding power and stick with my 22lb Bruce as the primary anchor on the roller. That's in case it wouldn't ride on my bow roller...

While I am not sold on the XYZ anchor, I would never try to suggest it is anything close to a bruce look alike. It most certainly is its own concept. And I for one do not think anchor design and improvement stopped with the Bruce, some of the new anchor designs have certainly proven themselves above and beyond as improvements, the Spade comes to mind for instance.
There has been some discussion on the XYZ recently on the SSCA board. The XYZ by the way is not a new design, its been around a few years now, they just recently came out with a newer version of it.

Radical designs always bring doubts and suspicions. I am designer of the new XYZ Ω Anchor and believe that future anchor generation will bring tremendous improvements. I also believe that the anchor holding power in the soft sea bottoms, such as the sand, should exceed the breaking strength of the anchor line. New Ω anchor was not officially tested! If there are questions about present and future anchors and anchoring I will be happy to reply.

I believe that it might be a tad more than just another Bruce. It sure looks different.. I'll have to go read what PS had to say..
The xyz folks spec their 24 lb for a 54 footer.. That's pretty impressive wouldn't you say?
Thanks for your thoughts...

Thanks for joining the discussion.
Do both the omega and the extreme break down via the 5 allenhead bolts? What's difference between the omega and the extreme? I can spot the minor visual differences in the shank, but in use how do they differ?
thanks

Randy, you are correct, there is a small visually difference between the Extreme and the Ω shanks. Both of them have five, oversize Allen, 3/8” stainless steel screws. I believe that so much can be done to improve the existing anchor’s performance; in less then two years, the Ω anchor is the XYZ’s 4th generation.
When analyzing an anchor’s primary function we should know what anchor elements are contributing effortless penetration in to a sea bottom. Even more, we should know what elements are obstructing and slowing down cutting/penetration process. It is obvious, to me, that fluke/plow is the only element that enables an anchor to dig and the ONLY element that produces the holding power.
To go back to your question, the shank and every other element above fluke/plow, such as a roll-bar or a flouting air containers are obstructing penetration/cutting ability. Long shanks and shanks that have no sharp edge are also slowing digging process. That is the reason that we have designed Ω that has the SHANK that is ultra short, thin and sharp, that makes only about 20% of the total anchor’s weight. Most of the similar Q&A we have posted on the XYZ website under FAQ.
