CQR storage

Post by Ann and David Brownlee »

We used to own #181, and we bought the CQR after a couple of difficult evenings spent trying to set a Danforth. The CQR can be stored very comfortably, hooked around the dorade vent box. The huge Danforth that is stored on the cabin top was our storm anchor. We kept it there becuse there was no room for it elsewhere.

We swear by the CQR, which sets well in sand or mud and never fouls in a reversing tide. We bought one for our CD 31, first thing.

Sleep well!

On storing the CQR anchor

Post by RonE58 »

Hello Ann and David,
I like the CQR as well, although I do use the light weight danforth for a lunch anchor. I am hanging the light weight danforth on the bow pulpit with a combination of heavy tie wraps and a bungee cord.
I will have to look at that dorade vent box to see how you hooked the CQR around it.
Thanks,
Ron

I've been meaning to take a picture of my setup and post it for some time now. My '81 CD27 came with the following setup. It works well. As you can see, it's a bit more difficult running bow lines on the port side, but everything else is easy to access.

Guthrie Roller

Post by Duncan Maio »

Cliff Guthrie has a slick setup on his CD27, the parts for which I have replicated, but not yet installed on my CD.

Sadly, the link to the photo he posted of his setup seems to have gone bad:

http://www.capedory.org/board/viewtopic ... bow+roller

It's basically a stainless anchor roller on a 1/2" shaft; the headstay fitting is drilled out to accept the shaft just forward of the bow chocks. There is an adjustable, beveled collar that fits between the roller and the headstay fitting.

Here's my lame attempt at uploading a (bad) photo of one of the copies, and a print of Cliff's picture:

That only works on your computer.
I hope we can get these pic's. I need to do an anchor platform for my CD  27.
