I hope the members of this group will indulge me in my editorial comment. After following the America's Cup trials in NZ it has become very apparent that our 'sluggish' Cape Dory's really have increased in personal value.
Tried and time honored design seems to be winning out over the latest in 'space age' technology. I believe that after it is all sorted out, some of the 'old' aluminum 12 metres from the 70's might actually be more competitive in the regards that they would at least hold together for the duration of a race. What good is an exponential SA/D when the boat is breaking in half or the boom snaps or the mainmast snaps.
So in my humble opinion my little 'CD25 that could' regularly sails in the 20-25 knot breezes and 4 -5 foot seas that these $2-5 mil. hulls are having problems with; which, at the end of the day makes it a far better boat.
For those of us traditionalists who may not be the first around the race course but actually make it to destinations- cheers. Now if Andy could build a 12 metre..hmm..interesting proposition.
