New CD25 Owner

Our family purchased CD25 #254 "Concord Coach" from Carl Thunberg. She'll be in Salem, MA next summer. This past summer, my wife spotted a CD22 and then noticed it was for sale. After looking at it and a couple CD25's, we settled on a CD25.

We've owned and raced a sailing dingy and an O'Day Daysiler for about five years. This will be our first big boat, and other than sailing with friends a few times per year, 2008 will be our first year on the ocean.

We've really enjoyed the forum already -- thanks for all the help.

Welcome aboard! This year was my first year with a CD25, and I loved it! If you and yours get half the enjoyment I did, you will have a ball!

Welcome. I'm a "new" CD25 owner also, I bought in October.
I'll be sailing out of Hull, Mass. south of Boston.
Maybe we'll see each other on the water.

This forum is an amazing source of information and enjoyment. In the last few days I have learned about "Spraying Gelcoat", maintaining water tanks, and interior wood maintenance.
I'm finding the discussions and the pictures great motivators for winter tasks and restoration work that prep for the big spring launch.

If you have pictures to post, I'd love to see them.. to encourage me. I think Concord Coach is less of a "Restoration Contest" entry than my boat "JAZ'D".

From the discussion it's also nice to know that other people dream of sailing.

Congrats on the new boat. We're on the Marblehead side of the harbor down off Naugus Head. We're only in the area for a month or so (this summer we cheated and stayed two), but our Typhoon goes out almost every afternoon. I'll keep an eye out for you!

The Concord Coach has lots of CD company in Salem Harbor including Al Levesque who sails the beautiful CD33 Athena.

There's nothing like a beautiful day and a sail up to Manchester.

It's nice to see 'new' Cape Dory owners joining in!

We've only been on our boat--and the board--for about a year and a half, and we're enjoying both tremendously.

This website is, indeed, a wonderful resource. The current topics are great in themselves; if you start mining the archives, the collective knowledge is quite astounding.

I've been a CD owner for around two months and don't know what I would do with out this board for help and support. This is a great bunch of people with more combined wisdom than you will ever need.

You might want to browse through some of the Cape Dory owners' individual websites for a good collection of general boat photos PLUS quite a number of documented improvement/modification projects.

I vividly recall a former Commodore of our boat club, while reviewing the mooring field, say: "A Cape Dory 25 is a Sailor's Sailboat"
That comment was an influence in my decision to purchase same some 12 years later.
The feature that I value most is the boat's relative stability in a real nasty sea state. Its great turn of speed in a mild breeze with a 150 was a very pleasant surprise.
I wish you well with your CD-25.

Another 25 owner! Congrats! Youll find her a wonderful boat. We have had Dreamer since 99' and have sailed Lake Ontairo at its worst. Even then she was comfortable and safe. Welcome to the board, and the Assocation. Here you'll find the best sailing minds in the world and they all own and sail Cape Dories!!! And probably know more about them than the people that built them!

Yes , I frequent the Cape Dory Owners websites. I actually borrowed Eric Woodman's CD25 Allia website's color scheme for my CD25 JAZ'D website.

I have been using the CD owners websites to get project and restoration ideas. As well as fantasizing about what my boat will look like when as the restoration progresses.

the PO of my boat had made interior modifications, some of which don't make sense. No sink? Pictures of other CD25 help me figure out what my boat might have looked like. The PO also added deck hardware and running rigging for single handed sailing. Some of the additions need to be "cleaned up" and done correctly. I have plenty of projects for the winter.

Hey Jeff,

It's good to see you posting, and welcome to CDSOA. I found a few more items that go to Concord Coach, and I'll drop them off some time this weekend. We're working on Leona Pearl (edited boat name on 11/26) this weekend, stripping off all removable teak, so I can strip and varnish them in my shop this winter.

Concord Coach is in good hands. I'm curious, do you think you'll be re-naming her? I guess I need to change my user profile now.

Auburn, CD-25, #625 is also on the Marblehead side of Salem Harbor, down by the Rockmore (an endless source of entertainment!). Maybe we can get together for the Boston Harbor Island Regatta next year. If we get enough 25's we can have a class in this fun race. I also moved up from an O'Day Daysailor to the CD-25, mostly for size, construction, stability, amenities -- taken together the ability to weekend cruise. If the 25 had standing head room I would never want another boat. Enjoy.

Hi Jeff,

We look forward to seeing another Cape Dory in Salem. I wish we knew all the CD owners in the harbor or near vicinity. There must be many that don't follow the board while there are many that do. I sometimes think there must be 20 or 30 of us, or more, between Marblehead, Salem, Beverly, and Manchester.
