Davits for CD36

Post by Bob Pence »

Anyone had experience adding davits for an inflatable to a CD36 in the Annapolis area. Who did it? Cost? Thanks
Russell

I'd avoid davits, if possible ..

Boats with long overhangs don't like weight in the ends. And they especially don't like weight out beyond the ends. It encourages hobby-horsing.

Davits look great when tied up at a marina or at anchor. Dont do well in rough seas. I agree with previous response. Avoid davits. Bring the dink aboard.

Half the boats we see on the waterway heading south for Florida and the Bahamas have davits. Over the past 7 years on the waterway I have noted more and more boats with davits, not necessarily CD's

Davits make a lot of sense on a 36. I mounted a set of Offshore Cruising on my 1982 CD 36 #67 back in about 1984. In moderate to light winds it means about 1.5 to 2 knots under sail. I'll agree that in heavy air the dinghy can drag. Mine has but no major problems. The Off Shore design is owner installed. Simply bolts onto the stern rail with an extender plate. I beafed up the extender plate with teak supports.
