Prize for 200,000
Is there a prize for being visitor number 200,000 on this board? Anyone giving away a Cape Dory, maybe?

Re: Prize for 200,000
If we had been going to award a prize, I would have set up a logging process to (a) verify the identity of the lucky zero-grabber, and (b) make sure it wasn't someone banging on the Refresh button to spin the counter. Is there a prize for being visitor number 200,000 on this board? When we hit 100,000, and a couple of board members volunteered to put up a prize, we had a logger in place, and it turned out there was someone deliberately trying to become number 100,000. But justice prevailed. He rolled up 99,992 through 99,999, then a legitimate visitor snuck in to grab 100,000, and the hapless pounder wound up jumping to 100,002. (Another, less vigorous pounder hit 100,001.)
Dennis Truett was the 100,000th visitor, and won a burgee and hat donated by Steve Alarcon & John Lesage. In his <a href="http://www.toolworks.com/cgi-bin/tw/wwb ... acceptance message</a>, Dennis volunteered to put up the prize for visitor 200,000. But we didn't make a fuss about 200,000 - and in any event, Dennis just sold his CD so I guess he's off the hook.
The next real milestone would be 500,000 IMO. But maybe we'll do something for 250,000 - should be around next April. We've been running a pretty steady 10,000 hits a month for more than a year now.

Thanks for the info, Walt. I think the numbers speak to your competence in running a well disciplined and extremely useful board, for which I thank you.

Re: Changing the subject
John,
I was looking for one of your books,
"20 Small Sailboats to Take You Anywhere," (Paradise Cay)
but I cannot find it. I even visited <a href="http://www.webcom.com/~maritime/paracay.html">Paradise Cay's website</a>, but they don't seem to have it either. Do you know where I can purchase a copy?

Re: Changing the subject
Hi Catherine:
Paradise Cay most definitely does have the book, even if their website is disorganized. Call the publisher, Matt Morehouse (or one of his minions)toll-free at 800-736-4509, and if you have any trouble call me at (360) 679-5119 and I'll get one to you straight away.
Incidentally, I have their website listed as www.paracay.com and their e-mail address as paracay@humboldt1.com
I hope you enjoy the book. It's apparently selling like hot cakes--hope they haven't run out of stock already.
Cheers,
John V.

Hey! Not So fast..... Re: Prize for 200,000
Hi Walt! Well your almost correct! I did in fact sell my CD22, but to insure my sailing enjoyment, I purchased a CD26D first. I still consider myself "On the HOOK" for a prize for # 200,000. Did # 200k print the screen with their name on it as proof? If so that would be good enough for me. If not, Lets set another bogie and I would be privleged to supply a burge. I wear my CD captains hat and fly the burge with great pride.

Up to you, Dennis ...

Oops - my mistake, and glad I am to hear you're still with us.
John didn't claim number 200,000 in so many words, and if whoever did it didn't do a screen capture, I couldn't verify it. (I could fake a screen capture for you pretty easily, though.)

Up to you whether you want to ask John, wait another five months or so for number 250,000, or hold off for 500,000.
Regards,
Walt
