Would anyone have any suggestions for a good small portable am / fm receiver?? I had a small Grundig and the reception was very poor.
It would be nice to have something to stay in touch with the world when we are out sailing.
Thanks

It's the antenna...
There are lots of decent AM/FM units on the market. Just about any one will do what you want, IF you have a decent antenna. Stay away from units that only use a built in antenna, unless you sail in an area where the signals are very strong, e.g., near a large city. There are many sailors out there who put their marine VHF antennas at the top of the mast, and then used a portable AM/FM radio down in the cabin with a built in antenna ( that is now near the water line) and wonder why it doesn't work. Your marine antenna will function quite nicely as a receive antenna for a FM radio. Switches are available for that purpose. You just have to remember to switch the antenna to the radio you want to use. Good luck.
