I just hauled my boat out and want to winterize the outboard myself.
I have a 4 h.p. Evinrude (1992) and would appreciate some advice on this.
Thanks,
Stephen

Winterizing my Outboard

Re: Winterizing my Outboard
Stephen,
Winterizing your outboard is very easy! Set up the engine so that you can run it in a barrel of fresh water. Start it and let it run for several minutes to flush out the system. Remove fuel line and let the engine run out of fuel. Remove the engine from the barrel. Drain the lower unit and refill with new lower gear lube from the BOTTOM plug (remove the upper plug to vent the air.) Remove the plugs. Pour about a teaspoon of oil into each cylinder. Then spin the engine to distribute the oil in the cylinders to prevent rust. Install new plugs. That should make your engine ready for the new season.
