I replaced the bulbs in my port, starboard, and stern running lights. When I removed the metal cap and plastic lens from the teak, the space around the fixtures seems covered in a thick, black goop. Lord knows how many years it has been since these were removed. I cleaned the stuff out as best I could and replaced the bulbs. Should I bed the lens cap in some sort of stuff to keep water out? It can't be anything that can't be easily removed next time a bulb burns out? Should I use a calk of some kind? or some silicon stuff? Do I need to put something in there or can I leave it as is? If you can be specific as to product and brand name that would be most helpful.
Thanks.

Personally I use silicone, as I have found that things like 5200 can make it hard to remove the thing you have bedded.
there is also a product called Life Caulk that could work nicely, its sometimes used as the gap filler on teak decks and stands up to UV well, its black and easy to remove.
Cheers,
Neil
