The 1983 manual available on this site says, on p28:
"All CD-36's are fitted with 1" diameter bronze "Tru shaft" propeller shafts."
You could do a quick sanity check by measuring yours. If you can't accurately measure the diameter, use a tape measure to check the circumference, which should be 3.14" (pi).

Love the wrenches
Robinhood included a set when I bought the boat. But I still need to break the nut each year with the hammer and screwdriver. I made many attempts from the quarter berth access door but found the right approach is to stuff some rags and a towel on top of the engine to protect the injector feed tubes &c. and work my body over the engine through the engine access door. This way I'm right on top of it. One whack and the lock nut gives. Of course it was soaked with WD-40 first.

Thanks your replies
Hello:
Just wanted thank everyone for their replies. We are going with the informed guess that the shaft of our CD36 is 1 inch. Today we ordered the appropriate wrenches from Spartan Marine.
Thanks, Philip & Sharon
