CD-25 Bulkhead Design
I'm in the process of purchasing a 1974 CD-25, in the course of which I had a survey performed. The surveyor reported that there appeared to have been a bulkhead removed just aft of the starboard cockpit locker--he states he could tell by the different color of the paint on the inside of the hull where the locker is located, compared to the paint just aft of that. There appears to be a clear line of demarcation, suggesting that some kind of transverse support had been there and had been removed. I'd like to know if other CD-25's have a bulkhead in this position, just a couple of feet forward of the transom, or whether no such structure exists. Perhaps there is a detailed drawing of the CD-25's hull which would show how the sternmost 5-6 feet of the hull is designed. I'd really appreciate it if someone with CD-25 familiarity could advise me.

Mine didn't have one.
Charles,
I had a 1978 CD 25 Hull #584. There was no bulkhead back there. If you went into the lockers (snug fit) you could reach to the stern and get your arm up below the traveler. I did that when I rebedded the traveler.
Good Luck!

No bulkhead
Jerry's right, there's not supposed to be any bulkhead there.
On my 1980 CD25, I got my entire 5' 11" length into the lockers to install stuff. What fun!

Bulkhead??
I have a 1976 and in the lockers there is an area about where you indicated that the hull liner ends. There was never a bulkhead there, but there is a color change from the gelcoated hull liner to the aft section that on my boat was painted. I think your surveyor got that one wrong.

I agree with the above posts. I have a 1974 and there are no bulkheads aft in the cockpit lockers, just the end of the liner and then plain fiberglass. In fact, underneath the cockpit floor there is no divider between port and starboard (those dividers werent added till 1975?) so it's wide open between the lockers. Also, if you look at the forward bulkheads at the fore part of the lockers they aren't so much structural bulkheads but more panels to separate the lockers from the cabin underneath the counters... basically the underpart of the cockpit to the cabin from a structural standpoint is wide open. However, mine is a 74 before they added the bridge deck so it might be different in the later models.

I also do not have any bulkhead back there nor do I have a divider from port to starboard. My 25 is a 1975 so if there was a divider added in the 75 models it must have been later in the year than #249.
FWIW.There is a way to tell when exactly your boat was built using the hull ID number. I do not remember it nor how I came to this conclusion but I'm pretty sure my boat was built in December of 1974 and sold as a 75.
