1986 Cape Dory 28, Fly Bridge

Post by Karen and Art Conner »

Hello everyone,
My husband and I just purchased a 1986 Cape Dory Flybridge yesterday. It has the 210 Cummins diesel which was installed in 1997.
We live in Mobile, Al.
We would love to hear from any other CD owners. We usually cruise the Destin, Pensacola area.
We are looking forward to hearing from any CD owners. Thanks, Karen and Art Conner

A friend and I were planning to look at your new purchase next weekend; good luck with it! Sorry we missed the chance, but maybe we'll get to see it at Pirate's Cove or somewhere.
I've owned several CD sailboats, and am considering moving to power. I hope you enjoy the boat. She looked great in the photos I saw from Lonnie.

Read about your new purchase-you will love her! Although I am from the East, I can tell you she handles great in rough seas, around docks and docking. I have been to Nantucket several times and have been in great comfort-trip time 8-10 hours non stop. If you are fisherman (I am) I want you to know she will take those rough seas! Example: Off Block Island, RI this year I was tuna fishing in 8-10 foot seas with no problems. I guess there is never a problem when you catch tuna!
My hull is #223 the last 28 FBC built in 1991. I am powered by a 200 turbo volvo. Best of luck with your new boat

You are going to love that boat! We have a 1987 CD 28 Open,
JUNONIA, and she also has the Cummins diesel. I think most
CD powerboata were built with Volvo diesels, and I know my engine
replaced the original Volvo, so maybe yours is a replacement too.
Anyway, the engine is great... 16 knots cruise at 7 GPH with a four
bladed 20 inch prop.
If you have any questions about your new CD, I will be glad to try to
answer them; as you will see, this BBS is a great resource.

I have owned my 1988 CD28 Power for three years. I installed a new 230HP Yanmar diesel last year with a 18" Dia 17" pitch prop. This is the finest boat I have ever owned. I completed an extended cruise from Rockland Maine to Stuart FL and return last winter with no problems at all. She was a pleasure to pilot and handled (slowly) the 7 footers on the Jersey Coast and the 8 footers South of Cape Ann like a champ. I am sure you will have years of pleasure with her. Good luck,
Hull No 124 - 1988

You are going to love her. We went from a sail boat to a large trawler and down to our Cape Dory 28 "HUNKY DORY" We have hull #19. we've had it painted (best investment), air conditioned, and installed an ELECTRA/SAN. We don't have the fly bridge but we have the volvo 165 and she just runs and runs........... Lotsa fun and everyone just loves her. Best boat we have had. I wish we had your engine. Just newer and better. The boat will take anything. Don't be afraid of it. You'll poop out long before she does.

BEST OF LUCK!

Frank & Deb
