CD36 Masthead Light bulb

Post by Jim_B »

Did CD36 come from the factory with a standard masthead light? If so can you tell me the replacement bulb number. My light is burnt out and I prefer to make just one trip up the mast. Thanks

The Owners Manual Says:

Post by bottomscraper »

The manual says it's a GE #1152 but I haven't actually checked mine. I think the 1152 (17 Watts) is hard to find, I think an 1142 (18 Watts) would work and would be cheaper, slightly brighter, use a little more power and is easier to find.

The owners manual for the 36 is online here:

The Spartan "SP-163" light fixture can be seen here:

rigrite stocks the bulbs

Post by ricks »

Just bought a couple, but they are not cheap.

Anyone know if these are some sort of special (marine, long life?) bulb that makes rig-rite want to charge such outrageous prices for a $2 bulb or is it just greed?

The 1142 is $2.59 for a 2 pack at Hamilton:

I don't know if these are marine bulbs with nickel plated bases.

West Marine sells Ancor bulbs with nickel plated bases #1142 2 pack for $4.59. WM# 288953

Not 1152

The actual replacement parts for that light assembly are GE#70 (deck light replacement tube) and GE#90 (the 1152 look alike).

The 1152 fits the socket and will work, but it is not original equipment. There are also other less costly replacements for the tube for the deck light.

I have no idea what the difference is but suspect it is a result of the same old "let's create a marine/high quality version of the same part so can charge more" school of marketing.

If, it was me. I would buy standard replacement bulbs...take an assortment with me up the mast and see if the light comes on...there might be other issues with fixture, wiring, etc., my boat's fixtures are"Aqua Signal" (1984).
