CD27 Cockpit Coaming
The teak cockpit coaming on my CD27 is badly cracked and should be replaced. Can anyone recommend a good person to do the repairs on Long Island? Also, if my memory serves me, there is someone out there who makes the coamings. Am I correct? And if so, who is it?

I live in West Babylon (Suffolk County). I saw your post looking for coamings. I have a 1981 CD27 #212 (http://www.cd27spirit.us/) on the side of our house going through a refit. I would like to offer my help building your new coamings.
I would only charge you cost of material and what you think my time is worth. I would like to help you for 2 reasons (one on them is not for profit!). One reason if for the experience building coamings for a CD27; though mine are in ok shape, eventually they will need to be replaced as well. Two, every dollar helps me getting my boat together.
I have done all the work on our home (plumbing, electrical, woodwork, etc.) along with maintaining and restoring our CD27. Though woodworking is not my profession I am an accomplished woodworker. This project would not be beyond my experience.
I could complete the boards to any stage you want. Though the more complete I make them, I may wind up buying them from you so I can install them on my boat.

Not a difficult job
For the cost of material ($120.00 from Boulter Plywood) it is a really easy job to do yourself. A jigsaw, drill, a good coarse file and some sandpaper it is quite easy. Just remove the old and use it for a template to rough cut with a jigsaw and drill the holes. Shape with a file and then sand to finish. Mine looks as good as the original on the starboard side. The most difficult part was building the "shoulder" that attaches to the cabin top on my 25D. I just used the remnants from the slightly oversized piece of teak I bought for the job.
It was actually a fun job that my SO and I did together.

You won't get a "private message" in your e-mail. You receive it via the message board (and you'll only receive notice of a PM via e-mail if you've set up your board profile to receive them).
So, make sure you're logged in and just scroll up to the top of any page on the message board and click on the "Private messages" link.
Also, if you've changed your e-mail address, please update your profile (click on the "Your Settings" link) to include the new address.
Thanks,
Cathy
