Repowering a CD26
I currently have a Honda 15 and it has gone south. I am considering repowering with a 4 stroke 9.9. I have some current problems, about 5 knots at times and concerned the 9.9 will be adequate. Any comments on an engine for my CD 26 will be greatly appreciated.

I have a long shaft 9.9T for sale with just a couple hours, PM me if interested.

I had a similar inquiry last month.

Thank god I was able to resuscitate my 2 stroke Merc 9.9, because I could not find a suitable [8 horse or better] 4 stroke that would fit in the CD26 Well. The closest I found available, was the Merc 4HP. It is about the same physical size and weight.
Shawn mentioned a Yamaha 8hp high-thrust 4 stroke.
Mike on Kayla also mentioned a Nissan 6hp 4-stroke, but I could not find either locally. That may be a good compromise.
Good luck, and let me know how your search goes as I know I will have to replace mine soon.

Nissan online
Hi Folks,
I couldn't find a decent price "locally" either so I bought mine online, from Defender, I think. Just checked them and all they had in stock were 15 hp. Searching further I found this via google "nissan 6-hp 4-stroke" :

Don't know this particular dealer but there were many others to look at as well.
Enjoy!

Wow, 5 knots of current! You need an motor that can push the boat at hull speed (about 5.9 knots) so that you can make 1 knot of actual progress against that kind of current.
I bought my CD26 in 2003 and it had a 2000 model Yamaha High-Thrust 9.9hp 4-stroke with 25" shaft. The prop is 11.75" diameter and it can really push the boat. I never tried to reach hull speed. A year and a half ago I bought a Tohatsu/Nissen 6hp 4-stroke long shaft to that I could lift it in and out of the lazerette by myself, but then I don't have to content with currents of more than 3 knots maximum. If you are interested in a lightly used Yamaha let me know.
In your situation a 15 hp may be the way to go. It should be the same outside dimensions as the 9.9 which fit without a problem in my lazerette. The mounting board had been relocated about 1" from it's original location.
