She's not a Cape Dory but is she ever beautifull. I had the pleasure of sailing aboard this schooner, built in '32, this past weekend. From Mystic Seaport to Block Island and then to Newport. We returned to Mystic on Sunday. What a sail!!!! We had about 25 knots of wind on Saturday going out through the Race and she performed unbelievably. We all (the eight paying crewing members) had not only a chance to raise and lower sails but we were expected to. If anyone out ther in Cape Dory Land has a love of old sailing ships try this one.

Re: THE BRILLIANT
I sailed on the Brilliant for a week in 1975 when I was.........let's just say a teenager at the time. Part of the Mystic Seaport education program. We sailed around Buzzard's Bay, to Martha's Vineyard and to Nantucket. We did one 24 hour race with other schooners, and I still vividly recall the midnight to 0400 watch on the foredeck with waves occasionally crashing over the bow. As a teenager it was a real thrill and is largely responsible for my staying with sailing. It also cemented my attraction to traditional designs which probably drew me to Cape Dorys last year when I was ready for my own boat.
I love the story about the Brilliant where the scores of carpenters who built her each personally wrote a letter to the owner on completion, thanking him for ordering the yacht and giving them employment during such hard times. The 1932 price, delivered, I believe, was about $100,000!

Re: THE BRILLIANT
I sailed out of Boston on the Ernestina which is a restored schooner owned by the Commonwealth--102 ft. There were 12 of us, also paying crewmembers, who sailed to Portland Maine. What an experience! I understand there are schooner groupies out there----
