HI,
I'm going to paint the bottom of my CD 25 green this winter. She currently has blue with a red boot stripe and the light blue deck paint.
Nothing against anyone who has this scheme, but I don't like it. Especially since it seems that nearly all the CD 25s have the same look. It gets to be kinda generic after awhile.
I was thinking of a green bottom with a black or Dark Green boot stripe and light gray on the decks. Any opinions or success stories? Photos would be most appreciated.
Also, Allia squats at the stern quite noticiably. I've read on here that this is a common problem. Short of adding weight to the bow, are there any good solutions out there. I have sea growth on my bootstripe near the stern from it being under h20 all summer. The bow has a good 2 inches out of the water below the stripe.
Is adjusting the boot stripe/waterline a bad idea? I'm thinking of moving it up in the stern about 1/4 inch and down about the same in the bow. Am I asking for a funny-looking boat?

Eric,
What colors are in the boat's name/hailing port on the transom? Using colors that complement them would be nice.
Newer Cape Dories have light tan, sort of beige, non-skid on the decks instead of the light blue and the bootstripe is a dark chocolate.
I think the light tan non-skid would look nice with the dark green boot stripe and green bottom that you mentioned. The cove stripe in dark green along with the bootstripe would look even nicer -- just my opinion.

Re: New bottom/bootstripe/deck color, waterline probs
Eric,
I would not recommend that you change the waterline. The boat was made to sail in a definite configuration of balance fore and aft. Most CD's are out of balance to some extent..and I don't know why,e xcept for the CD30's, which had several different engines installed at build time.
Our solution was to add 270 lbs of sand in the area under the plywood covering the vberth, and behind the holding tank. Your boat being a CD25 will be different, but the jist of it is that this is the fix that works. The boat does sail better, takes the waves better, tracks better, and hobby-horses far less or not at all. Grand total cost was 1 hr. of work, and $6.28.
Remember, bandaids don't work for long.

THE NAME AND HAIL PORT ARE BLACK. BUT BOTH NAME AND HAIL PORT WILL CHANGE THIS WINTER. WILL PROBABLY STAY BLACK THOEric,

WHAT'S A COVE STRIPE? IS THAT THE LINE ON THE TOPSIDES BELOW THE TOERAILS? IF SO, MY BOAT DOESN'T HAVE ONE. TO MY KNOWLEDGE, NO CD 25S DO.Newer Cape Dories have light tan, sort of beige, non-skid on the decks instead of the light blue and the bootstripe is a dark chocolate.

I'LL PROBABLY GO WITH TAN NON-SKID.
