Another reason for the faithful, continued use of Marvel Mystery Oil.
Hung valves, frozen rings? These are what it was created for. It saved me more than once.
Good luck,

Brenno-something here doesn't make sense-valves and rings don't fail while the boat is sitting still-if it ran fine when you shut it off-it should start again-
You say it turns over-so its not "frozen"-but the mechanics are telling you it has no compression and won't sart-one possibility is you one exhaust valve is frozen-can you take the valve cover off and turn the motor over by hand and see if the push rods and rockers work? if its frozen a little wd-40-a hammer tap etc-might help but I don't think that's your problem-
you should confirm you are getting fuel to your injector-you can loosen the fuel line at the injector and turn the motor over and see if anything squitrs out (were safety glassed-its 120 psi)-no fuel? check the fuel shut off switch-the filters-pums etc.-if you have fuel and can get the motor to turn over fast enough it should start-
You can try squirting a small amount of engine oil into the cylnder to lubricate the rings-you can squirt a very small amount of ether on a rag and hold it near the air intake while you turn the motor and see if it starts-do not ever squirt starting fluid directly into a diesel-or you will need a new motor-
how many hours on this motor? I don't see how it could be a catastrophic engine failure-tha't usualy from lack of oil or running without water-anyway let us know and don't assume you need a new motor-if you do-one idea is to do a web search for engine rebuilding services-many times they will swap you for yours for a rebuilt one right off the shelf-
since its a one cylnder, yu only have 1 piston-2 valves and I think 3 rings-it can't be a big job to take the head off and replace the rings and grind the valves-
