Interfacing Maptech to GARMIN
I had to buy a cable that makes a serial connection between my PC and the Garmin handheld unit. In the Maptech software under the GPS menu item, there is an entry to setup the communication interface between Maptech and the Garmin unit. The GPS 76 is listed under the Garmin units. On my GPS 12 there...

Good Experience
I have downloaded the Maptech free Chart Viewer and charts of the Northern parts of the Chesapeake Bay. I have not noticed an increase in SPAM since I downloaded the software and charts. I was able to interface the software with my Garmin GPS-12 [old and limited, but useful]. Now I can plan routes a...

Ethanol in gasoline
Does anyone have experience with the new 10% ethanol in gasoline, particularly in outboard gas tanks? I have a Tohatsu two stroke 8hp, purchased in 2002. I have seen an article in Chesapeake Bay magazine indicating that the ethanol can attack the hose and other rubber fittings.

Replacing the tiller
When we broke our tiller, we used a piece of ash. I am sure that it is easier to work than oak. We used the old tiller as a template. A few minutes with a bandsaw and quite a few minutes with a belt sander and we had a workable piece. When varnished it turns a nice yellow. Good luck with your project.

Springtime on the Chesapeake
You have to strike while the iron is hot [or in this case the breezes are blowing]. Cleaned the winter dirt off of "Second Wind" [CD25] last Tuesday. Went for a wonderful sail on Thursday: wind from the NW about 12-15. The weather was all over the place from spitting rain to warm sun. By l...
