Good Points
Thanks for all the thoughtful replys. A buyers agreement does make sense and I think comparing cars and boats as I did in an earlier post is probably comparing apples and oranges. Not the same thing. I understand now how such an agreement serves to protect both the buyer and the seller. Reality time.

tire kicking boats
My point is that a boat should be no different from a car or a house. If I want to kick the tires or tap on the foundation, I shoudn't have to agree to buy the thing before I check it out. Agreed, if any damage is done during the tire kicking or foundation tapping, this would require a damage deposi...

Question: signing buyers agreement prior to survey
I engaged a surveyor to inspect a boat being sold by a broker. When the surveyor contacted the broker to arrange for an inspection date, the broker said that I would have to sign a buyers agreement plus 10% cash down before he would allow the surveyor to inspect the boat. Is this common practice whe...

I'll Give It a Shot
I'm no expert but I'll try to answer: oil additive called Mystery Oil, a local mechanic says I should add this to every tank Who knows. Many swear by the stuff and others say it doesn't make a difference. Bottom line is probably can't hurt if you can afford it. Acts primarily as an extra lubricant. ...

D & P Piloting Method in Fog
A method not metioned is the Dog and Potato method of piloting in fog (Annapolis Book of Seamanship. J. Rousmaniere; pp 246. 3rd ed. 1999;Simon & Schuster). When a dog(s) is heard barking, make a 180 degee turn directly away from sound(s). Large breeds (Labador etc.) are more reliable than small...

Not all lost
I do see some good news in this thread. Not all is lost just yet. The yard I had my boat in this year successfully fought and won an eminent domain challenge from city politicians to develop condos on the land. Basically a mud flat off the Delaware River. It took the town citizens of Delanco, New Je...

Thanks for the replys
Thanks for the help. I'm gonna have to drive the area for sure to find a good spot I think. Cheap of course is good. Informal too. Scratching myself and hanging onto a cup of coffee at dawn on the aft deak and seeing my neighbors in yachting gear with cap and docksiders staring in disapproval is som...

Herrington Harbor North
I have enquired at Herrington Harbor North (different I think from Herrington Harbor South which is the more posh of the two I think), but knowing little about the Chesapeake, I have been overwhelmed by the number of marinas. I have seen lists that list over 500 marinas in the Bay alone. An over abu...

Marinas on Chesapeake Bay
This is a little off topic for a Cape Dory message board and not sure this has been hashed over before, but I am going to purchase a Cape Dory on the Chesapeake Bay and was wondering what a good marina would be. I'm not looking for a resort type marina with all the bells and whistles, just one that ...

CD 300 Motorsailer Opinions
I am very interested in buying a CD 300 MS and was curious as to what CD owners in general thought about them. I realize I am asking on a forum of Cape Dory enthusiasts and opinons might be somewaht biased. I have yet to hear anything negative on my forays for information. They seem to be more or le...
