Very Loose Backstay on Typhoon

I have those annoying closed turnbuckles on my 1974 Typhoon "Osprey". I didn't get to sail much this summer, but when I was out at the boat recently the backstay seemed pretty slack. I couldn't remember the proper way to tighten it and couldn't access the CD board. The nuts were pretty muc...

Painting Non-Skid

Our Typhoon's foredeck is looking bad. It was refurbished by the former former owner about 7 years ago. We're thinking we need to tackle repainting the nice blue non-skid on the deck as it's starting to really crack. I'm guessing it is just going to be a good deal of sanding and we have a can of the...

I just cleared my typhoon drains by using my hand bilge pump. I too keep "Osprey" on a mooring. The starboard side drain seemed "a little slow". A couple of pumps pulled up a good amount of crud that I swept over the side. Seemed to work well and I'm adding this to my usual maint...

Typhoon Rigging Question

This season we got a 5hp motor and mounted it on the original o/b bracket. I've noticed we're a little stern heavy and have been meaning to add some weight to the bow so it will sit a little flatter on her mooring. We sailed this weekend and I noticed that the backstay tension was significantly loos...

Installing New Rudder and Post on Typhoon

Well Osprey's new rudder should be shipped from Nausett Marine by the end of the week. Now comes the installation. Was curious to hear experiences from other CD owners on this process. It looks like we'll need to take off the metal "shoe" piece attached to the keel, slide up the new post a...

Replacing Rudder for Typhoon

We finished up our 1st full season with "Osprey" with a hard grounding on the way to have the boat pulled. Tow US got us off, but either in the grounding, being pulled off, or during the wild tow in the swells and wind we lost our rudder. I am now starting to look about having a new rudder...

WANTED: Typhoon Trailer

We're enjoying our 1st full season with Osprey. We took a little extra time getting her ready for the water, but the extra work on the toe/rub rail, winch replacement and remounting original motor mount was worth the spring weekends working. Hard to believe but we're already thinking about the winte...
