Adoryble is no longer owned by Cap'n Mike and Saucy Cindy

Everyone: We have traded in Adoryble. We started to sail more and more (a testament to Adoryble). She taught us many things, including flying a spinnaker. We have since taught others. (another testament to Adoryble). However, we started to sail all day and into the night. Arriving back at the dock e...

gurgling...

Adoryble's cockpit drains gurgle when the seas pick up and we are blown over at 30-degrees. However, we are moving along at a pretty good clip. Perhaps, that has something to do with it. We have never had a problem with our uncrossed lines. High heel angles, high chop, emptying coolers, taking cockp...

Adoryble's not crossed...

Gary: Weird! Adoryble's seacock lines are NOT crossed. In my original manual and the one on the Cape Dory web page, I see no reference of them needing to be crossed. I looked at Oldragbaggers blog (they have an interior picture of their Katrina victim CD22). Their seacock lines are NOT crossed eithe...

Oh, yeah...single-handed downwind

I have hoisted both a whisker-poled genoa and spinnakered single-handed. For both sails, I stop the boat and lay ahull, so the sails will come out about perpendicular to the boat luffing. For the genoa whisker-poled, I lay ahull and set the whisker pole to the length between the mast and head stay (...

Downwind in a CD22

I have a 100 jib, 130 jib, and a symmetrical spinnaker in a sock. One suggestion before I begin: bring along your significant other (very p.c.) if you have one. If you don't, then why? Is there something wr...whoops, getting off track, ha ha ha. I have found that my wife has a better sense of comfor...

Not understanding...

Gary: I have a CD22 with the battery behind the cockpit drains, but I don't have to remove the drains. You must have one big a$$ battery! Late last year, we replaced our battery with a group 27 lead-acid battery, which still fits but is snug. I thought about putting a battery tray in the starboard c...

Why larger than TP10?

Actually, the reason I want a pilot larger than the TP10 is because I like robust systems. I don't want the minimum. Also, I sail all the time. People always tell me to give Adoryble a rest. I would like a tiller pilot that can handle Adoryble in most sea and wind conditions, so I figure a TP22 or T...

Thanks everyone...also a note about ICP Sunsei Solar Panel

Thanks everyone for your input. I did have a Sunsei 18W Solar Panel on Adoryble, but after 4 months on deck the panel's edges separated, water got in, and the panel stopped working. I would consider a flexible solar panel. Which is the best? Which lasts longer? Also, I think I will go with one of th...

Wind Vane vs. Autopilot for CD22

After some internet research, I think I have decided to add a tiller pilot, not a wind vane, to my CD22. I think an autopilot is better for coastal, day sailing. The only major drawback for a tiller pilot is the electrical needs. I have a group 27 battery on board, but I have no way of charging it a...

Adoryble and Weather Helm

I fly Adoryble with all sails (full main and 125 genoa) up to winds of 10 knots. Between 10 - 15 knots, I am reefed in the main with the full genoa. After 15 knots, I am only flying the genoa. At 20 knots+, I am flying the genoa reefed between 60 and 100. All these settings keep us over 5 knots. I c...

Why ask why...oh, well...here's my answer

By schooling, I am an aerospace engineer, so sailing allows me to deal with aerodynamics.

My wife loves to camp.

Both of us love to travel.

So....

We got into sailing so I could play with aerodynamics, and we could have a floating pop-up trailer that will take us places...together!
