Re: CD 25D bilge pump

Thanks for the reminder on the Whale pump! I forget it is there and need to "exercise" it every now and then. I think it is original to the boat (1979) and should probably be changed but it is a real bear to access. It's on the rear cockpit bulkhead and requires crawling into the area and ...

Re: CD 25D bilge pump

I didn’t like the original plastic thru hull either. I replaced it with bronze and redirected the hose. Before it would dig into my back whenever I crawled in there to work on the steering. Also I was worried about that hose getting worked around too much and splitting. What Rule pump has a 1-1/2” ...

Re: CD 25D bilge pump

Hi Tom I have a 1-1/4" discharge outlet for my manual hand pump and 3/4" outlet for my automatic pump, I mounted a float switch on a piece of 1/4" aluminum that fits nicely down in place so I can lift it out to service . I wonder why you have a 1-1/2 " discharge outlet. Maybe th...

Re: CD 25D bilge pump

It seems Amazon won't take the Rule bilge pump back so I guess the next best thing is to use it on my boat as a backup pump. I don't know how to make this happen without running another line and cutting another hole in the hull for the additional bilge pump discharge. I'm reloctant to do this, espec...

Re: CD 25D bilge pump

I made a trip to the boat today with several items on the agenda. Number 1 was to hook up some 1/2" clear hoses to the Yanmar and run acid through it. I connected every thing up and attempted to run fresh water first to check for leaks. It was a really nice day but I wasn't interested in gettin...

Re: CD 25D bilge pump

I ordered the Rule 1100GPH automatic pump and a side bracket (to help the mounting issues). I still have a problem working in the bottom of that skinny bilge but the side bracket should help.

Re: CD 25D bilge pump

Great suggestions!!! The boat doesn't have a alarm on it now but would be easy to wire in when I replace the pump. The switch in the pump sounds like a great idea. Mounting those external lever switches would be a chore in the 25D. The bottom of the bilge is deep and narrow. Not much working room to...

CD 25D bilge pump

I was doing some maintenance on my 25D today and had a fresh water hose in the cabin. After some failed attempts to do a acid purge on my Yanmar head/block, I decided to run a little water in the bilge to test the bilge pump. It failed to come on, so I turned it on with the manual switch position. I...

Re: CD 25D Yanmar temperature alarm

Hi Jean, Thanks for the quick reply. The warning alarm started in the 2 minutes from cold at 1000 rpm (the head was barely warm). I didn’t measure the temp with the IR sensor because of the alarm (makes me nervous with loud warning noises) and I didn’t feel the engine had enough time to normalize to...

Re: CD 25D Yanmar temperature alarm

I made it to the boat and reinstalled the mixing elbow. I fired the engine up with the new thermostat and my alarm came on again in +- 2 minutes. I still had the same amount of water discharge as before. The only thing left was the pump impeller so I checked it and it looked ok (changed it less than...

Re: CD 25D Yanmar temperature alarm

As mentioned earlier, I have a good IR sensor and have used it around various pieces of gear and projects but I don’t have a point of reference for what is normal and what isn’t on this engine. A base case would be great but with the engine running for less than 2 minutes after startup probably won’...

Re: CD 25D Yanmar temperature alarm

Went to the boat today to eliminate two potential causes for my overheating problem. I pulled the mixing elbow and the thermostat. The thermostat appeared a little crusty and the little disk on top was partially open. This surprised me because i expected it to be totally shut. It was warm out today ...

Re: CD 25D Yanmar temperature alarm

Thanks Steve s, I’ll check both the sender and the catholic protection. The boat was a fresh water boat all but the two most recent years. I changed the prop anode a year ago but it never occurred to me to change the engine anode as well. Is there a recommended source for the anode and the thermosta...

Re: CD 25D Yanmar temperature alarm

I had a Fluke IR unit on board when I had the problem but the battery was dead. I’m not sure it would have done me any good anyway because I’m not sure what a over heated reading would be. When I get this problem fixed, I’ll run a base case and determine what normal temps should be so I can know whe...

Re: CD 25D Yanmar temperature alarm

Thanks SteveI’m tempted to change out the warning sender. I’m not sure where it’s located. The oil pressure sender is obvious but not so much the temp sender.

I guess I should find a manual for this engine.
