Re: Cape Dory 28 repower and prop question
Prop choice will depend on engine size and transmission ratio. I currently have 28 a Universal M18 that has 14HP and a 1:2 transmission ratio. When I inquired with a folding prop builder they told me a folding prop wont fit my boat (correct), but for my setup they recommend a 2 blade 13x10 prop. I d...

What's under the fiberglass in the head on CD28?
I removed the nasty old non functioning Groco head from my CD28. I bought a Lavac to replace it. Obviously the bolt pattern is different. Anyone know what's under the raised section of fiberglass in the head area? When I took the Groco head out, the screw pulled up up what seemed to be some rotten w...

Re: 95% jib on a CD28
... Someone gave me a hank on sail thats the same size as the original club jib and I was going to give it a try. Was not sure to run sheets for the small sail outside or inside the shrouds. I had the same boat with hank-on sails for quite a while, and on occasion used the club jib with sheets. The...

Re: 95% jib on a CD28
I have ... another sail that looks like a 95%. Its pretty small. Should I run the jibsheets inside the shrouds or outside the shrouds like the 115%? First, do you have a furling system, or do you use hank-on sails? The sail you describe may have been the original club-footed jib that shipped with t...

95% jib on a CD28
I have only used what appears to be about a 115% jib/genoa on my CD28. I have another sail that looks like a 95%. Its pretty small. Should I run the jibsheets inside the shrouds or outside the shrouds like the 115%?

Re: Access hatch in cockpit sole of 28 Cape Dory
I have the same issue. Only solution I can think of is to have a teenager crawl in there. Even if I cut a hatch in the floor it would still not be good enough. I need to be able to climb inside there. Not just get an arm in there.

Physically..NOT HAPPENING, Im too big, and Im not really that big. I have no ability to change the packing, change zi...

Re: Club footed jib setup
The original user manual, available on this site, has directions for rigging the club jib. They are pretty good. You do need a good outhaul and I think you need a very compact one to get good performance. You most likely do not need to pull the sail to the end of the boom to get good performance. T...

Club footed jib setup
My 28 came with a club footed jib setup and 2 sails for it. Internet opinions seem to vary on it. Id like to give it a try before I decided if Im going to keep it on or not. Sure takes up a lot of space. Anyone explain how this this is rigged up? Based on pictures, looks like you rig the jib sheets ...

There was a time when Barient was the Cadillac of winches. I think you’ll be surprised what a thorough cleaning, greasing, and oiling of those winch will do.
I took them apart and cleaned everything. They are fine now.

Re: More CD28 Questions
What year and what hull # is your 28? That will help us find similar boats. My 1983 #341 has the holding tank under the v-berth. Pumpout fitting is on the bow starboard side. The fitting on port aft quarter is bilge bump outlet on mine. Jerry It's an 84 #372 and the pumpout cap on on the cockpit fl...

I hope that's not the case....LOL.
