Re: Weather stripping for cockpit lockers?
The cockpit locker coamings in our 25D are punky and leak a fair amount. Wish that had been part of the fiberglass mold. I have been mulling over buying some fiberglass angle pieces from McMaster carr and setting them in thickened epoxy to create a waterproof frame for the opening. Then I could set ...

Re: Port light screens
Please report back if you have success with 3D printed screens. Our library has a 3D printer so I have toyed with the idea of trying. Seems like it would require some experimentation to find a density of openings that is strong enough but allows good airflow. I'll see if I can find what Sam did. We ...

Re: Before I buy a new alternator...
Pleased to report a happy ending! Jim, your comment about field wiring made it clear I needed to learn a bit more about alternators. When I was trying to diagnose the alternator, I only noted 2 wires connected to it. Reviewing diagrams and multiple other forum posts made me realize there should have...

Re: Before I buy a new alternator...
Thank you for the response, Jim! Learning a lot about alternators this AM... Based on other internet sleuthing, it seems the 1GM may have a sensor that reads a magnet on the flywheel; i.e. tachometer reading does not come from the alternator. I had no idea about the field wiring. Now to wrap my head...

Before I buy a new alternator...
First week with our new to us CD25D! I'll have to follow up with some pictures and an update on projects/improvements so far. My brother in law was helping me with some docking practice the other night and we ran the motor for about an hour and a half. Yanmar 1GM. I checked the battery voltage after...

Re: Raising/Lowering the mast using an A-Frame
Many thanks, Jim, for sharing the details of your system! I modified my own approach to adopt your a-frame. Since I do it in the water, I feel better rigging some temporary stays, which you can make out in the photos if you squint. For a few years now I have been using a gin pole: https://live.stati...

Re: Non skid prep - best way to sand?
Nice work. Thanks for posting. This is a project that I need to do and you made it look doable in just two days. I may tackle this next Spring. What paint did you use? I like the gray color. Thank you! I was pretty pleased with the result. I will say I was only able to get it done in two days becau...

Re: Non skid prep - best way to sand?
Following up with what I learned/did in case it proves helpful to others. On the advice of a trusted friend, I did not tape before sanding. I was able to carefully sand up the edge by hand with 120 grit on a sanding block. The non-skid is raised up enough above the gelcoat that if one is careful, yo...

Non skid prep - best way to sand?
Weather is looking pretty good for an attempt to redo our non-skid before we launch this spring. A portion was redone recently with some repairs to the coach roof using Interdeck, so I'd like to match that. Seems straightforward enough, but I am wondering if others have any tips/tricks for sanding r...

Re: Chain Locker on Typhoon Senior
Only had a few minutes this afternoon but some interesting options arose from puzzling over your suggestion to think outside the rail. Going to think about it more this weekend but might have to punt until I can lay the anchor on the deck with the boat rigged. Flukes tucked aft of the pulpit. Flippe...

Re: Chain Locker on Typhoon Senior
But here is an idea...maybe a small bare teak plank/chock that is more or less parallel to the centerline but off set say to starboard and which allows the fluke to hang over the gunwale. It would be out of the way, ready to deploy, but rely on the existing bronze chocks to secure the rode. Oo I li...

Re: Chain Locker on Typhoon Senior
The Ty sailors are a clever lot. :D It takes a special character. Beauty is not not a consideration. Just tired of lugging my anchor crate up to the foredeck, especially if anchoring singlehanded. And it would free up storage space aft. I've thought about stowing the anchor separately from the rode...
