Re: Mast wires
The hand holds on the cabin top are how Cape Dory did them on the earlier boats. I kind of wish I had them on Raven. They would be much easier to varnish than trying to tape off all the little loops on the later versions. They also seem safer as they present one continuous hold that you could slide...

Re: CD27 Icebox drain
My CD28 drains the same way, it annoys me to no end. (I also hate how the sink in the head also drains into the bilge.) The icebox drain in the CD28 (or at least mine) also is just a small bronze grill, no hose (or hose barb that I could see) to affix to. When I re=power, and have more working room ...

Re: Repair or Replace Teak Coamings?
Thanks Jeff! I forgot to ask at the beginning how to remove the entire teak coaming which was presumably set in adhesive at the factory without damaging it (after removing any screws or bolts first lol). What modern bedding compound would be appropriate for rebedding the teak coaming upon reinstall...

Re: Repair or Replace Teak Coamings?
I had a very similar issue with my CD28. The port side combing had developed a crack all the way from the stern to the winch stands 2/3rds of the way up. I didn't want to switch from teak, or I expected to be annoyed by it not matching starboard combing. Pricing teak replacement was NOT cheap, since...

Re: 25D seacock grease
Randy: Sadly, I have been stuck on the starboard cockpit drain seacock. I recently was advised to "leave it alone". It's stuck in the "open" position; leave it in the open position. I would not just ignore it. The seacock is there in case the drain hose becomes compromised, and ...

Re: CD 31 Bilge Pump
Bilge pumps tend to be hooked up slightly differently on every boat. It sounds like your screw driver may have hit your float switch. Since you mention it has an auto option, there is a good chance your screwdriver drop is holding down this float switch, or knocked loose the wire(s) leading to or fr...

Re: Cape Dory 28 Bulkhead mounted table
I'll measure this out for you on my CD28 this weekend and post back! Just curious, on other's CD28's, are the salon sette backs hinged for flipping up or removable storage covers? (I've seen photos of both, wondering what is original.) Mine has seat backs that hinge upwards, and they take up about a...

Re: CLC Eastport Nesting Pram on a CD28
Thanks for all the input folks!
Seems this clc nesting pram is slightly heavier/harder to manage than originally anticipated. I may go with a folding design instead, but not sure.

Re: CLC Eastport Nesting Pram on a CD28
Hey Rob, Port Townsend Watercraft makes some nice looking dingy kits. No experience with one however. The price of the kits has been a deterrent to building one. Thanks for the suggestion! The PT11 looks nice, but even nested is still 6' long. The CLC is under 5' when nested, so quite the differenc...

CLC Eastport Nesting Pram on a CD28
I've seen some older posts about trying to fit a proper tender onto some CDs on the boards here, but none have quite answered what I'm looking for. So I'm adding to those types of thread with a new one. However, I'll reference the other threads to prove I'm not lazy and just asking repeated question...

Re: Getting a roller furling jib
Just basically seconding a lot of what hinmo stated. A sailmaker can remove the hanks and add a furling strip/tape to the genoa/jib luff. You typically don't have to buy new sails just for this. The only 'gotcha' for this is some genoa's have luff panels installed, so when the larger genoa is furled...

Re: Single Handing
I have just last season converted Slainte, our beloved 27, to having the halyard lead to the cockpit. Using even the very best blocks you will still be adding a lot of friction. I still go forward to raise the main. We are still glad that we lead the halyard aft because now we can lower the main to...

Re: Bilge Pump, repair or replace?
I had this issue as well, the diaphragm on my gusher 8 ripped and I had to remove the pump to replace it. Of course, a week later one of the plastic flanges to hold the top of the pump to the handle broke, and I had to simply pull the entire unit and replace with a new gusher pump. If you can repair...
