Re: Peening rudder shoe pins?
I was wrong about the original diameter I wanted to go up a size but originals were 3/8 diameter. But thanks that's what I was thinking.

Re: Peening rudder shoe pins?
You will have to pre-form a head on one end, insert the pin, peen the virgin end and the opposite end in turns till the pin is secure. It helps if you can have a helper "buck" the opposite end while you are doing the peening. Sometimes scoring the head of the rod an eighth of an inch deep...

Re: Cd28 shaft diameter?
I had a MD 2B on my CD28, it had rubber on the engine mounts. I have a brand new shaft if you need one. I decided to install a new Beta Marine 16 hp. Just slabs of rubber, not separate flexible engine mounts with a stud for adjusting height, right? How about the beta, flexible mounts I assume, any ...

Re: Cd28 shaft diameter?
Do you know if the engines were hard mounted? Mine used to have an md2, not sure how mounted. The stern tube just seems tiny for a one inch shaft..... Had trouble with the alignment and there's not much room to play with....

Peening rudder shoe pins?
Hi all, I got the shoe off of my cd28 using a die grinder, with very little damage to the surrounding glass and I'm very happy.... I ordered some 5/8 silicon bronze rod to replace the pins and am looking for sources of information on correct peening techniques. Any takers here? Not much on YouTube e...

Re: Deadwood
Jim, from the pictures it looks like you stripped the bottom down to the gelcoat, not to fiberglass. A nuance, but not quite the same thing. Benlieb, did you have much trouble removing your rudder without removing the bronze shoe? From other rudder repair posts I've seen on this website, that shoe ...

Re: Deadwood
Mine was very bad in that area as well, had to fill some mega blisters/ voids. Had some concerns so wanted to ask.... I'm adding an exterior shoe to avoid having to hack the whole bottom corner of the boat to pieces, but I still need to cut off the protruding tip of he old shoe and grind the glass b...

Can anyone tell me what is underneath this area structurally in front of where the rudder joins? Hoping it is solid as opposed to hollow. Built a new rudder and need to modify a bit. It's a cd28.

Re: cd 28 stern hull to deck joint
My cd 28 had the same problem, also at the side stays. It's the way they were made with iron brackets underneath the deck as a backing plate that was glassed into the inside of the hull. Then the wood rails leak and the iron disintegrates.... So the deck rips up from the hull. The bracket you want t...
