I'm back in

A while back I got a little grief on this board for having let my CDSOA membership lapse for a while. I am not going to mention who gave me the grief. Well, guilt always works well on someone who was raised Catholic ... so I have rejoined. And to properly atone, I have anteed up for the next three y...

Re: Questions re leak-proofing hatches, CD31

Thanks, Gary. I have heard of that stuff, but not in a very long time. But seems like I had heard positive reports before.

Did you use the Tolley's on cracks in the existing sealer?

Re: Questions re leak-proofing hatches, CD31

Thanks, Jean. Do you know of a brand of siliconized acrylic latex caulk? I ask because I have less than zero knowledge of chemistry, and my experience is that often product descriptions online or on packaging don't always have the exact words I'm looking for. My chemistry teacher passed me solely to...

Personally, I think this is one of those questions where if you're asking it, the answer is always Yes.

Just IMHO.

Re: Questions re leak-proofing hatches, CD31

Thanks, Jean. What I've got are extremely small fissures in the sealant around the Lexan. I think I will TRY forcing a bit of silicone into the cracks. My guess is that it can't hurt to try . . . ??? Before doing this, does anyone recommend wiping with anything in particular? Really, I'd be wiping t...

Questions re leak-proofing hatches, CD31

Our CD31 has two Bomar hatches. What is the best sealant to use to fill tiny cracks in the existing sealer that surrounds the Lexan? This work will be done on the cabin top, from the top side of the hatches. Exactly what type of gasket material do I buy to replace the rubber gasket in the groove on ...

What material used in my hatches?

On our 1984 CD31, we have two Bomar hatches. What material is the "clear" part? (In the case of ours, not very clear at all anymore. I suspect they came new as tinted, but ours are now also yellowed, scratched, abraded.) Is that Lexan? I think silicone gets along well with Lexan, and we wa...

Re: Snap-ring pliers, Oberdorfer water pump, Universal M25,

Thanks, Steve. I may go that route. I am nowhere near my boat. Can you confirm what I think I remember, which is that our rings are "external?" I just found these guys, and they have a lot of snap-ring pliers: https://www.grainger.com/category/tools/ecatalog/N-168a?refineSearchString=snap-...

Snap-ring pliers, Oberdorfer water pump, Universal M25, CD31

I have searched in vain for some snap-ring pliers to remove/replace the impeller in the Oberdorfer water pump on the Universal M25 in our CD31. The ring is small, and the two holes are tiny. All the pliers I find (including one I bought, with a choice of tips) are two big. I have limped along for ye...

Re: Refrigeration on a CD31?

Thanks, Capt Hook.

Running the engine to charge batteries, or to cool the fridge? It seems like it would come down to how much time one needs to get the job done. I haven't gotten a handle on that yet. I've gotten differing opinions; but then everyone's situation and needs are different.
