Re: Typhoon hatch trim: bed it?

Since they say a photo's worth 1,000 words, here's the area I'm talking about. There was a lot of dirt trapped between the trim piece and the raised area of the cabin top, which I cleaned up, but like I say, no sealant of any type. It's been this way for a while (5 years+) so if it hasn't done any d...

Typhoon hatch trim: bed it?

In the process of giving my Typhoon a good rub-down I removed the two strips of teak that hold down the companionway hatch. They don't seem to have been bedded in anything, nor was there any kind of sealant around the screws. Are these pieces screwed into solid fiberglass, or should I seal this up w...

Re: Coiling Line

Last summer I used Brion Toss' method to coil my garden hose. It was surprisingly hard to learn, but it works.

Re: How to build a boom crutch for my ty

Here's another option. (Sorry about the terrible photo, but this is the best I have on hand.) It's made out of plywood. The trapezoidal base has a cutout to fit around the rudder post so that it can slide to the very aft end of the cockpit (it can be shoved back farther than it is in the photo). The...

Re: Typhoon weather

I'm loving the Typhoon! Especially on a day like that. We have it moored in Elmwood Township Marina, down at the base of Grand Traverse Bay.

Typhoon weather

Yesterday evening's sail. 12 knots of wind, gusting to 15. Grand Traverse Bay is oriented more or less north-south, so northerly winds like this can kick up some decent waves.

(Pardon the unattractive battery...)

Re: Typhoon outboard motor

That Torqueedo looks really, really nice, but there seem to be a good number of people who get by with an ordinary trolling motor: http://capedory.org/board/search.php?keywords=typhoon+trolling&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=topics&st=0&ch=300&t=0&...

Re: CD 31 Arrival

I'm launching Sabrina tomorrow, so today I rowed out to put the mooring pendants on our mooring ball. Who do I find as our neighbor but Gamblin'!

Speaking of that mooring ball, it's #13: Do I need to enact any rites to ward off bad luck?

Re: CD 31 Arrival

Just wanted to say "congrats" on the new vessel, and mention that we might cross paths out on the bay this summer: I'm the new owner of a Typhoon, which I'm going to be mooring at Elmwood Township Marina (once I get some minor bottom work taken care of).

Re: Teak rehab recommendations?

Sounds like a plan! Also what I wanted to hear. The toe rails will need to come off at some point anyways: I think I'm getting some drips through the fasteners along them, so I was planning on pulling them off (this winter) and re-bedding them. Here's another question: Most of the teak isn't ...

Teak rehab recommendations?

I'm the new owner of a 1978 Typhoon. She's mostly in excellent shape, but the teak, while not necessarily neglected, has seen better days. (See the attached photo for an example. One of the worse parts, really.) In the long term, the best course of action is probably to pull it all off and refinish ...

Re: Should I replace this bow plate? CD Typhoon

Hi everyone! Just bought a Typhoon, haven't put it in the water yet, but thought I'd chime in on this photo issue. I might miss a few details here, but hopefully I can summarize it. When you take a photo with a modern photo-taking device (a recent digital camera, smartphone, tablet, etc) it uses a t...
