Angle of heel

Ha, I had to laugh at the thoughts of the several angles of heel that were mentioned that takes place. The one most familiar to me is the camera heel - that's where a camera nicely resting in the helm cupholder drops directly from the helm into the drink without so much as a bump on the leeward rail...

Undercoat

Hi, Zeida: It usually takes about 5 quarts of Micron Extra to do the job once. 3 coats would be about 4 gallons. Put a red coat on first then the color of choice for coats afterwards. Then when you see red, it's time to do the job again. If you use something like VC17 on a windy day, the wind will c...

Nice idea!

Cathy: As I begin my CD27 project, I'll have to take lots of pics and later write up separate little projects instead of writing up the whole endeavor at once. I think it's a better and more logical way of documenting "how-to" techniques and ideas that can be passed on. Someone searching f...

Re: Record Snowfall

The added weight of ice accumulation causes power loss, falling branches, even trees crashing on roofs of dwellings. The weight of 2 feet of wet snow is often overlooked when dealing with the immediate problems of snow removal from streets and roads. Many structures were built in the Maryland - Vir...

LIS

Hi, Dick: It might be February but it was -10ºF last night here in middle NYS. But lest I sound like I'm complaining, I should defer to OJ to get the bragging rights, I'm not. I'm getting ready for the Pro Bowl and have already hit the freezer by choice! :D The cold fronts coming from our northern ...

About the CD25D in Ithaca

I looked at that boat last fall. It is a single owner boat and according to the engine's mechanics, has always had the shop do his work. The owner is a doctor and is ready to give up sailing, according to the salespeople who are selling the boat. When I looked at it it wasn't kept as if it was for s...

Santa's delivery to Rhapsody!

Rhapsody's Captain and Admiral decided to forego the traditional "Boat toys" and paid her crew's expenses for an exntended weekend in New York City. What a party! Sorry Rhapsody. Fair Winds Bill, did you not get Santa's Ginger Beer delivery from the north country? Rudolf himself (driven b...

"Spring is right around the corner!"

Mitch: It's funny how perspectives differ in various parts of our CDSOA. As you begin the process of getting your boat ready for a cold-weather pause in Virginia and begrudgingly release your grasp of the sheets, the warmer upcoming sailing season seems a long way off. But you're already inspiring i...

Re: "Six Frigates" by Ian Toll

I might have posted this one before, but Ian Toll's "Six Frigates: The Epic History of the Founding of the U.S. Navy" is a fascinating read, full of politics, history and, of course, some rollicking sea battles. It's really sound history and shows that Congress was busy ladling out defens...

Rotella 30

Bob:
I just purchased a case of Rotella 30 from Advance Auto. I use it in both engine and transmission, as recommended in my engine's manual. It's available, but it looks like you'll have to look around.
