John, Never had a problem with damaging the extension. I suppose if you backed hard into a pier ........... They are made by Spartan. Don't have catalogue any more, but they're still in business. Good company. Try "Spartan Marine Hardware" on Google. They're now part of Robinhood Marine in Maine.
