Re: Torqeedo on a Typhoon Weekender

Hold out for the long shaft. My son did tests with a standard trolling motor, if there is much pitch, the prop pops out of the water. $0.02, please...

Re: Mid Winter - Show your Sailing Summer

I can't beat BC, nor youthful pirate enthusiasm, so here is a sound for sore ears in a thick fog.

https://youtu.be/3_anyQqQVnE

It is the buoy circled here, just of the south tip of Bailey Island, taking our boat over to Finest Kind Boatyard for her winter nap.

Portsmouth RI to NYC -Inside or Outside

We are having family argument: Back in the 1700's in the age of sailing ships, when a ship would go from Portsmouth, NH to NYC, do you think they would go outside Long Island or inside through Long Island Sound? The approach to the city gets pretty constricted down at the city, but Portland, Oregon ...

Re: Ocean's Poem In Cruising World-Fame and Glory!

Oh, I see... I guess shiny baubles and pictures are enough to attract my attention, so I did not finish the article...I have to agree that when the last sentence suggests you buy something else, why include that in the list? I already have (and LOVE!) mine, so as the title suggests, I'm just out for...

Ocean's Poem In Cruising World-Fame and Glory!

A while back Dan Spur asked for pictures for his article "10 Sailboats Under 50 Grand", and I sent in our CD30K "Ocean's Poem". Yay! We got lucky!! https://www.cruisingworld.com/10-boats-under-50-grand Scroll down some... The bell-bouy is at the entrance to Broad Sound, Maine. A ...

I'm with you on too many boats! But I bet $200 in cash would take it home!

Some of those pix make it look like there is no center board slot.

Don't they?

Re: US Destroyer collides with merchant ship

I just heard about 7 missing crew. My earlier post was meant to be humorous, but my heart goes out to the families of the missing and the other sailors. Nothing is funny when there is loss of life. It is, indeed, hard to understand how that could have possibly happened! Both ships undoubtedly had ra...

Re: US Destroyer collides with merchant ship

I was fortunate enough to visit the USS Carl Vinson in the Pacific, they were launching F18s and a merchant ship was crossing off our bow. It was a couple of miles off, but the Carl Vinson was radioing them to change course, the jets had to turn as soon as the took off to keep from going over them. ...

A Typhoon Rainbow

A little rain shower gave us this great view over the New Meadows River. That is my son's Ty, and way over at the far shore is another Ty and a CD28, I think, at Brightwater near The Basin.

After all, what **else** would you find at the end of he rainbow??

Re: Seized pumpout cap

I put this stuff on every screw thread I ever see, near the ocean or not.

It's a little messy, so you have to use caution that way, but I'm pretty sure you will never have any trouble getting anything back off if you want...

Main Sheet Traveler Stop-Need New One!

We took Ocean's Poem out yesterday morning, it was blowing pretty good, 15-20 knots, we threw in a double reef on the main, and were cruising along six-and-a-half knots on the right tack... Downwind, we were running and jibing, and on one jibe something went "ploop" and my son and I saw th...
