Re: Universal M-18 engine with Hurth transmission

I am fairly large and with a thin pad on top of engine I can see and remove trans dip stick. A few helpful hints: 1: the level is to be taken with the dipstick "not" screwed in. 2: If ATF is used it is difficult to see fluid level, Draw a line vertically on dipstick with white chalk, the f...

Cape Dory 30 Sail Plan

I have a CD 30 cutter and the previous owner equipped it with a 150 Genoa with roller furling. The original Yankee is not equipped with a bolt rope to use it in the furler and the stay-sail is quite old. The major downside of this is I have to take in the Genoa each time I tack to get it past the in...

Re: Difficulty cranking engine

One additional thing is, I initially assumed starter and have a fully functional starter if you decide it is something you want to try. I would recommend checking the voltage drop first.

Re: Difficulty cranking engine

I had this problem as well. My panel was wired such that the glow plug had to be held depressed to have the start button work. This causes approx 20 amps to be flowing. This is through the key switch through the glow switch The path also includes two connectors in the harness between the engine and ...

Re: Re-rigging cutter on CD 30 - HELP, please.

I have a Cape Dory 30 with cutter rig. I would be happy to take ant measurements you need. The boat is pulled for the winter and some distance for my house, but I check on it every few weeks. Let me know specifically what you need.

Thanks Jean Pierre, I did not know repair was an option for the sensor. I was considering buying a new one.

Installing rudder position sensor Raymarine ST4000 Autopilot

Raytheon ST4000 Autopilot. I have installed a rudder position sensor but the autopilot does not seem to see it or indicate rudder position. Reading my manual dated 6/1/99 it seems to expect the rudder position will just show up after installation. Reading an earlier version on the web it talks about...

Re: Replacing Shioft and throttle control cables

Thanks for the input. When I looked at the old cable, I was convinced that the small amount of difference in alignment from the clamp to the arm where the clevis attached was an issue. I got the new cables followed the directions on the Edson site and everything worked. Just as a note to anyone doin...

Replacing Shioft and throttle control cables

I am in the process of replacing the control cables in the Edson pedestal. When I removed the old cables the throttle cable was bent where it joined the clevis. I am concerned since the cable is fairly ridged from the attachment point in the front center of the pedestal to the end of the cable where...

Re: dock lines for New York State canal system

I have transited the NYS Barge canal many times, It’s not a big deal. I usually pull up to one of the ladders, have one line from the bow to the stern with extra in middle to wrap around the ladder rungs. Stand mid-ship, adjusting as the elevation changes, I just quickly rethread it to a new rung. I...

Re: Cutlass Bearing CD 30

Thanks for your input, I do not have the V drive. I have the Universal M18 engine. I would be interested in the modifications to boat yard made to improve access.

Cutlass Bearing CD 30

I have a 1984 CD 30, Hanalei I have noticed that I am developing some play in the cutlass bearing. I have obtained the new part and have reviewed the drawings in the owner’s manual. My issue is access, I definitely do not fit and my son tried who is quite fit and could not get access to the shaft co...

When you switch batteries and the tach reads correctly does the engine smooth out as well?

Re: Access to Stanchion Nuts

My experience is when removing, vice grips , open end wrench anything works. However when replacing you should look up the posts on butyl Rubber SP? , I followed this procedure and no more leaks, I was very carful not to turn the screws when replacing since I felt this would jeopardize the seal arou...
