Well, I finally was able to speak to the boatyard's owner, but no progress to note. The guy's got bigger fish to fry right now, taking care of season's end business, but will let me know when he has the title. I asked him to have the water pumped out, and the boat covered, so now it's just a waiting...

removing bottom paint

Steve, it's good to hear that blisters aren't usually a problem on Typhoons. I've been reading Casey's Complete Illustrated Sailboat Maintenance Manual , with This Old Boat waiting in the wings. Casey mentioned blisters but I guess that, the book being generic, some boats have 'em and some don't; I ...

Thanks again, Dick. Just a quart of -100 antifreeze, eh? I was gonna go down there this weekend and pour 2 gallons in there. Either HAR-HAR or WHEW! Thanks for anticipating me again. I'm sure you're right about where the water's getting in. Also, the deck-to-hull looks compromised (see photo PB10349...

I'm guessing that one of the good things about this boat...

is that with a bilge full of water, the outside hull shows no damp/wet spots. I hope this means the bilge water hasn't (yet) done too much damage, I won't necessarily have to drill holes in the hull to let out water (I'm leery at that prospect), and that if I do the following, I MAY be good to go. 1...

How much salt in Typhoon bilge to keep water from freezing?

Hi all,

I did a search thru the board, but could not find an amount of salt (instead of anti-freeze) to put in bilge.

In addition, is any particular type of salt preferred over others?

Thanks, Dick, and the rest of you guys. That was very specific and detailed advice, which I plan to follow to the letter. Many of my questions were anticipated in your last posts, Dick! Wow, then WOW! I'm going for it this weekend, so I'll send out the hounds to look for the yard's owner as he's a h...

I plan to scrape down the hull and bring her back up with a dark green bottom, with gold bootstripe, so is this the logical place to start, or the deck where rain is currently able to work it's way into the cabin and do further damage? Of course, this is after a thorough initial cleaning.

Wow, you guys, I'm feeling more and more empowered with each reply that I read. And thanks for the encouraging words, they mean a lot; OJ's especially struck a chord. I can hardly wait for the owner to get title, so we can start talking turkey. He says Spring, but I'm wondering if I should push for ...

Thanks for the input, fellas.

Mark, unless something magical happens, no sails, motor, or mount are available with the boat.

BTW, when I inquired about a ballpark asking price, the yard's owner said about 1500 clams. Going by the pictures, does this seem like a reasonable number?

Thanks for your input, everybody.

Yesterday, I was able to take about 70 pictures of the boat and time permitting, I'll try to post some of them.
