Cape Dory 30 for sale San Diego
Hey all, After nearly 10 years of boat ownership and cruising which began right when my wife and I graduated college, we've decided to sell our Cape Dory 30. We had a lot of big plans for her but life got in the way. We planned on doing the puddle jump and replaced or upgraded every system. Instead ...

Cape Dory 30 Garage Sale: Sail, Staysail Boom, Alternator
Hey all, Just cleaning up over here and thought I'd get rid of some things. We're in San Diego btw. 1) Cape Dory 30 Mainsail. In good / Fair condition. Nothing wrong with it, the only reason we replaced it was because we needed 3 reef points and this sail only has 2. Head tack and clew are in good c...

Re: New Bronze Chainplates
Hey Jim, That "Thing" on the side of the hull is a vent for the head. The previous owner installed it and I'm not sure why he put it so close to the waterline... As for the bends, we had them done by Western here in Denver and was a part of the finishing work. Since they are silicone bronz...

Re: New Bronze Chainplates
In reply to Steve, It ended up being pretty easy to transfer the standing rigging over to the new chainplates while still having the mast up. We first disconnected and re-attached the intermediate stays one by one. Once they were all transferred over, we took the main halyard and attached it to the ...

Re: New Bronze Chainplates
Hey there, So we just finished the project. All in all, it took 4 days and went smoothly thanks to all the good information on this board. We mainly went with Fred's (http://www.sbastro.com/FeNIX/mainFrameSet.htm) design. After de-tensioning the rig, the removal of the "weldment" that is g...

Re: New Bronze Chainplates
Yep, they're external chainplates. I got the unfinished bronze for $250 .... definitely a tiny bit torqued a needed some finessing to get them straight. I'll be adding 4-5 layers of woven roving to the interior of the hull and then using G10 backing plates that I'll cut to size. I would have stuck w...

New Bronze Chainplates
Hey guys, Thought I'd post about my recent purchase of 1/4"x1 1/2" x 14" silicon bronze chainplates. I bought them at Atlas Metals here in Denver and had them finished at Western Sculpture Supply also in Denver. Total cost for the bronze and the finishing work was about $400. I'm leav...

Re: 2013 Puffin 8' Rowing Dinghy in San Diego area
I agree with David, it's a little more tender than an inflatable, but nothing for concern. We previously had an 8' Dinghy from a company out of Tampa (forgot the name) that was similar in design, but 25lbs heavier and much less stable. The Puffin is definitely the best dinghy we've ever owned. The b...

Re: 2013 Puffin 8' Rowing Dinghy in San Diego area
Wow, that was quick. SOLD In response to why we were selling it, 2 reasons: 1) Our boat is in San Diego where there aren't many places to go. The Puffin has ended up on the dock permanently. 2) It barely fits atop our CD30. Certainly would require some good chocks for any serious trip. We are planni...

2013 Puffin 8' Rowing Dinghy in San Diego area
Hey all, We are selling our Puffin dinghy. She's treated us well, but we have little use for her in San Diego. She's just barely fits in between the traveler and the mast atop a CD30, light enough to maneuver around (70lbs) on deck. Built in flotation. Actual size is 7'8". In great condition, l...

Re: Repowering without a V-Drive Transmission
Thanks for your replies.
That's kinda what we thought. We are going to stick with the V-drive and avoid tearing the stringers out. Looking to reuse as many systems as possible; I'm sure keeping the V-Drive will only assist in this.

Repowering without a V-Drive Transmission
Hey there,
Just curious if anyone has figured out a way to repower a CD-30 (or any other CD with a V-Drive) without using a V-drive? I'd love to figure out a way without tearing the boat apart... doesn't seem possible at this point though.
Any help would be great.
