Re: CD 30 cabin details

East Coast Embroidery made a set of curtains for our 28. We ordered off-white, with a royal-blue trim stripe to match our cushions. Going on ten years now, the curtains still look great.

Good luck!

Re: CD28 Primary winches

Give the winches a good servicing, but if you are still not satisfied, you can probably sell them to a marine consignment store for a few hundred dollars, at least. Case in point: Our 28 came with Lewmar #40 self-tailers mounted on what look to be the original winch bases. We found the original Bari...

Re: Spartan Frozen Seacocks

Keep working with those seacocks Paul. I posted a few days ago in a similar thread that the seacocks in the port/starboard cockpit lockers of our boat were stuck in the open position when we bought her 10 years ago and have been that way ever since. I never took the time to try to service them, I gu...

Re: Seacocks on a 1977 CD 28

Hello Green Horn, Keep working on those seacocks. In my view, you need a way to "close the gate" and shut off the water from being able to come in the boat in case a hose clamp comes loose and/or the hose attached to the seacock goes bad. I've owned owned Miss Evelean for 10 years now and ...

Insight on a CD 30 MK II

Hello Folks, I am seeking the board's wise counsel on this one. The Dean of the college where I teach plans to retire in the next year or so and has his eye on a 1989 CD 30 MK II in Charleston, SC. He's a Maine native, sailor, and is familiar with the Cape Dory name; he knows I own a 28. He's asked ...

Re: Carolina Cape Dory Fleet

All, Here are some "Florence aftermath" pics I took at NWC Marina in New Bern, between September 25-30. Three large cranes worked throughout the marina for several days returning boats to their rightful places. I left on the 30th so by now the boats are probably back where they belong; rep...

Re: Leaking bronze ports?

New gaskets make a world of difference. I started to see a few drops here and there two years ago, but over the last several months, it seemed that five out of the eight ports leaked a steady drip-drip-drip, even in a light rain. Last month I installed new gaskets all around; she's dry now. I put a ...

Re: Carolina Cape Dory Fleet

Hello John, Miss Evelean lies at Northwest Creek Marina, in Fairfield Harbour (New Bern). She came through just fine - not a scratch. By my count, though, at least a dozen boats suffered damage and ended up all over the place, on the docks, up against each other. One boat sank but was brought up tod...

Re: Sunken Dream

Bob, I agree; they were definitely not ready. What did this couple think sailing (to the Caribbean) would be like, anyway? Did they believe they could just pick up the skills along the way? I'm all for living an adventurous life, but to strike out on a major voyage with no experience, training, or m...

Re: Belews Lake, North Carolina

Robert,

You should look into New Bern, NC. It's upstream on the Neuse River from Oriental. Great sailing, and far enough inland to escape the wrath of most hurricanes (Irene notwithstanding).

We've had our 28 here since 2009 and love it.

Re: Seacocks Cape Dory 25D

Robert, the cockpit scuppers on my 28 take a 1 5/8" hose as well, "wet exhaust," wire reinforced. Not sure I would use the wire kind again. The whole run from scupper to seacock is only 18 inches or so. A wire hose that short is VERY stiff! Not sure about the galley sink seacock/hose;...

Doug, You might try Rob Eberle. I have never hired him and cannot speak directly about his qualifications, but he puts on a great sunfish race around Harker's Island, NC every summer. I know him from participating in that race several times and he seems like a good fellow. I think he lives close to ...

Re: Blocks on cabin

George,

On our '83 the starboard block in your photo holds lines for the cunningham and outhaul, led to the cockpit. The PO had the boat set up this way and we have kept it ever since. She has roller furling, but all the self-tending jib gear was included in the sale, too.

Good times indeed! Where do you keep your boat? We sail out of Fairfield Harbor, up in New Bern and are always looking to meet other Cape Dory owners.

All the best,

Richard
