Re: 4 Stroke for a CD25
Don't know if this is the place to post this, but I have a Tohatsu 6 hp long shaft sailpro, brand new, never filled with gas or oil (unless they test them at the factory) that I'll sell for $1,000. (Check OnLineOutboards.com for the cheapest prices.) Problem is, it's in Blue Hill, Maine and I don't ...

Re: Wood For Exterior Applications
Tight-grained yellow pine (is this the same as long leaf yellow pine?) or quarter sawn Douglas fir would be fine. I don't have experience in buying wood. Where does one shop for it? I am in Baltimore and I know about Exotic Lumber in Annapolis, but this would be like going to an inner harbor hotel ...

Re: Wood For Exterior Applications
If price is an issue, almost any wood will do if properly dimensioned and free of bad knots - even relatively weak white or norway pine. The piece is so easy to replace: would you be happy with five or eight years - or many times that if properly cared for - if it saved a lot of bucks for now? Tight...

Re: Gennaker Furler Systems
As soon as they were available I bought a Selden for my 27, to use with an asymmetrical I had. It seemed like a great idea - fly on starboard reach, quick furl, jibe, fly on port reach. I could never make it work. It came out nicely but twisted on the rewind and I'd have to find a beach to unwrap an...

Re: Removing names easily
Mark - are you repainting with the same name? If not, don' t forget John Vigor's renaming protocol (http://www.48north.com/mr_offline/denaming.htm). Dripping paint residue would be the least of your worries. Thanks for the great tip. In a nod to never setting sail on Friday or traveling with a pars...

Removing names easily
Just to confirm: Easy Off Oven Cleaner does do the trick for removing painted names on fiberglass. The spray kind works, the blue gellish liquid not so much. Wearing glasses is a good idea because it can blow around (doesn't seem to sting, but probably not good for eyes.) We did it in 37ºF. Warming ...

Re: CD 27 Interior Redo
This may be heresy to some on this Board, but that's never stopped me before, so here goes. Have you ever considered painting what you have, rather than go to the expense of replacing it with teak? In my opinion, the interior of almost all of the Cape Dorys is too dark. With the correct surface pre...

Re: glom or jail?
My hailing port is in sans-serif type, black and easy to read. A neighbor, who is somewhat of a stickler, commented that the letters didn't look 4 inches tall to him. He was right, of course. But that was 9 years ago. My boat's doc. number is routed to a piece of teak that's attached to a bulkhead ...

glom or jail?
USCG regs on documentation require boat and port names be 4" high. That can be a bit glommy for the port name, and I've seen documented boats with smaller lettering. Has anybody been hassled on this? Also, they require the boat number to be fixed inside "in a way that removing the number w...

In praise of Tula
Please forgive the long post. Now that I am buying a new boat and probably will be without the lovely Tula, I want to sing her praises. Tula is a Cape Dory 27 which, it has been said – and I believe it – is as sweet a sailor as any of the Albergs. Some have called the 27 “Carl’s sports car.” In any ...

Re: Maine coverage
As the OP in this string, I made a decision and got Verizon with my new iPhone, after years with AT&T.. So far, on land up and down the coast, VZ is much better than I had been getting. If you don't need an iPhone in Maine, US Cellular is the way to go, but they won't let the others use their to...

Maine coverage
Could I get some feedback on cell coverage for cruising on the Maine coast - Verizon vs ATT?
It's time for a new phone. I've found ATT very spotty. Is Verizon OK?
I assume that both are reasonably good west of Maine.
thanks a lot

two equipment questions
Loaned Tula to somebody, and they had a bit of an accident, ruining the anchor, bow pulpit, and a few other things. 1) Anybody know of a source for a new bow pulpit? I do have insurance, but a custom model comes in around $4,000. 2) Without re-igniting the anchor drama, are there any opinions on the...

Rafting
What is the protocol for rafting up at a marina? How do you handle it if an inside boat wants to leave before outside boats? I've only rafted for a quick trip onshore.
Thanks
