Re: anatomy of a spartan portlight or porthole

Thanks much Steve. So I'm thinking "where is the gasket". And wondering if it's right in front of me when I lift the inside cover. Just pull that stiff but still a little bit pliable black ring out and replace it wit h a new one from spartan. That sounds too simple but would be great. No n...

anatomy of a spartan portlight or porthole

I have a small leak in one of the portlights on my cd28. It is on the starboard side over the settee. Any advice on proper way to dismantle and reseal? And if so, any advice on removing those screws? Once removed, do I need to buy a gasket or rebed what is there? Ain't it obvious I don't know where ...

Re: Portlight rebedding

Thanks again John. I'll order from Spartan to be sure
Of a good fit. Will do interior first and see if that does the trick. I read your link. This is not a pouring in leak but as you say, better to fix early.

Re: Portlight rebedding

Ok John, tks for the tutorial. I've never done this so I still have a few questions. First though, I don't know whether to rebed or replace gaskets. I'm guessing here now, but I imagine rebedding requires moving the exterior bronze to get to the old bedding, and Replacing gaskets requires re.oving o...

Portlight rebedding

Any advice on this topic anyone? One portlight leaks a little.
I've read Don Casey on the subject. He doesn't say where to start.
I'm not at the boat right now, but I'm wondering if I have to start removing from the inside of the boat or the outside.
Thanks for any tips.

ignition switch for a cd28 with yanmar 2gm20f

Went sailing on the Beaufort (sc) river yesterday. Got the sails up, turned off the engine . Couldn't turn off the key to silence the alarm. Then I saw the ignition key on the cockpit floor. Uh oh. The ignition assembly had disassembled. So I turned off the batteries. That silenced the alarm. Sailed...

Re: Popping noise at night

Thanks flyby. I'm in process of replacing the thru hull and maybe using a hose with larger diameter. There is a lot of corrosion where the thru is secured. So it's time for renewal. Well see if that cures the popping noise.

Popping noise at night

My cd 28 is on the hard in a boat yard in coastal Georgia. I'm working on the boat and sleeping aboard in the v-berth at night. A popping noise wakes me from a sound sleep, usually between midnight and 2 a.m. Can anyone give me a hint as to what might be causing this noise? Nothing is falling onto t...
