Re: locking nuts

Rich, That is a very clever approach to getting the bolts out. Ill be filing that one away- Craig, You may have noticed, but Harborfreight can take weeks to ship. They have great deals on tools one might use infrequently. Chase I agree, Rich you're pretty clever I think I'll try that approach with ...

200 inch pounds not ft lbs.. opps

after looking at torque wrenches in Sear's tonight I thought that seems kinda big for the job so I went back and read page 38 of the cd 22 thru 30 manual and sure enough I had mis-quoted it. It states the following Most deck hardware is thru-bolted and backed up where necessary. Periodically these i...

Re: Thoughts On Chainplates

Craig, By all means, use WD 40 or some other penetrating liquid on the nuts and bolts. First scrape or sand any paint on the threads. Every half hour or so give the nut a smart rap with a soft blow hammer to shock the threads and help the penetrant seep in. If you can remove the chain plates, you m...

Re: Awlgrip

I would never use acetone unless you don't mind removing some of the finish since it is a very good solvent for any of the 2-part epoxy paints. Hello Dick thanks for the response. Every year that I clean the topsides the stains will not come out by just washing..I checked awlgrips site after a loca...

RE-BEDDING CHAINPLATES

Hello Board members I'm inside this year so today I started to tackle the dreaded project " re-bedding deck hardware and chainplates. I removed all of the nuts and some of the bolts regarding the chainplates and broke the tips on 2 heavy duty screwdrivers. The port side steel is in good shape v...

Re: compounding allgrip

Shouldn't you be concerned with the fact your boat yard charged you for something that didn't need to be done and they apparently can't tell the difference between gel-coat and a paint job? Wayne I'm kinda of holding it inside..the anger that is but I really would like to hear some other opinions b...

Awlgrip Paint

I went with inside storage this year and part of the contract states that the yard does the compound and wax of the topsides and paints the bottom. I just got the bill for $400 from the yard for compounding and waxing the hull. $60 per hour X 6 plus material. In November I stated that the boat has b...

Re: link to those who know

Hi Randy I was actually reading some other thread that you had going on about the pardy's technique and followed your advise in that thread to about anchoring which led me to get to bad well past midnight. Everything he said makes so much sense but damn if I would have ever seen the light. this boar...

Re: Series Drogue

Hi OJ Iamb a little late with this but here's my 2 cents. I read the report and they talked about adding a "SPECIAL EYE" to the genoa tracks. Makes sense to me my tracks are only 4 feet long and end forward of the jib sheet winchs, if I changed these to run all the way back and had a heavy...

Re: Pad eyes

Hi Steve I'm curious, a reacher is that like a cruising spin. I always get them confused reacher, flasher, stasher etc. could you tell me more about your genoa tracks and sheeting arrangement for the jib. like I said mine are 4 feet long and end forward of the winches. I just added some bronze pad e...

Hi John I wish my tracks went back all the way I was reading the coast guard report on drogues and it said that this would make a good attachment point for spreading the loads that the drogue would cause in storm conditions. My cd30 tracks are only 4 feet long and they end forward of the jib/genoa s...

I have the line coming aft to a harken hexarachet block with a cam cleat. The picture shows the block before I put the furling line through it. I actually moved it to a different stanchion so it wouldn't interfere with the cleat you see there. <a href="http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y13/Sets...

Re: furler lines

Left to right. (Blue) staysail out haul. Staysail furler, Yankee furler. I asked an engineer what he thought of the load on the stanchion from the turning blocks. He felt that as long as the load was low on the tube, the sails will go before the stanchion. We will see....... Sail on John Danicic CD ...
