Re: Need length of CD30 Cutter club boom and other dimension
Photos of the mast and deck. The bent strap once held a pulley. The flat stainless may be a modification, as you can see two screw holes for another bracket. http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy213/jroe650/IMG_1486_zpse209eee2.jpg http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy213/jroe650/IMG_1488_zps9c7cdd...

Re: Need length of CD30 Cutter club boom and other dimension
I have been refitting my 83 CD30 cutter. I have tons of images and information regarding the boats. I am pleased to help you with any questions or needs you may have. If you are still in need precise measurements on the factory boom dimensions and factory rigging set up I can furnish those to you. D...

Re: Factory bedding and sealing
I found it had failed and was about to fail on several components. This other sealant mostly remained intact but for a few areas where it had dried out completely and was brittle. After 30+ years! I doubt that any sealant is designed to remain useful for half that time. I have rebedded all fixtures...

Re: Factory bedding and sealing
Did you buy your CD30 recently from St. Augustine? I have had the opposite experience, all of our hardware was bedded REALLY well. We pulled the chainplates a few weeks ago and we still had to use a chisel to get them off the deck, I've had the same experience with all the fittings installed by the...

Re: Factory bedding and sealing
I have a '77 CD30 and have probably removed, replaced, re-bedded every piece of hardware and teak on the boat. In my experience Dolfinite was used exclusively to bed the teak to fiberglass. The only place I found silicone was to bed the hatch lights. I think a previous owner used silicone around th...

Re: Factory bedding and sealing
Jon R… you can see how immediate some of the CD owners on this board are reacting to your post. With your permission, I will post some of the recent photos of what you are talking about. I think it will really help the members address these issues. I do know the water intake on deck on Bandolera ha...

Re: Factory bedding and sealing
At first, I thought that my boat was unique. Few people have responded to my posts that described poorly bedded fittings and rotten balsa core. While everything you described is spot on, it is easy for people to ignore that which can be expensive, time consuming and especially out of sight. The lat...

Factory bedding and sealing
I haven't been on the board for a very long time but an issue has come up that prompted me to make this post. I am involved in a refit of a '83 30 cutter. I wanted to make everyone aware of a repeating problem I have been uncovering as I have been refitting many components on the boat. This is a mat...

I've worked for several builders in the past and I would like to add to Fred and John V's observations. First of all I agree with John that the rudder location is not going to have any effect. Fred is dead right about the assymetry issues in tooling and hull molds. In the years I worked on productio...

This is a controversial subject because there is certainly more than one approach to dealing with a a leak or flooding boat. Steve, you already have the best pump in the world assuming you are on board - the buckets. The old saying is very true that the best pump in the world is a scared sailor with...

No, not a pop rivet at all. Drive rivets are flanged like a pop rivet except instead of there being a expansion pin that gets pulled through the rivet by the gun a drive rivet has a small stud pressed into it from the top. The rivet is inserted into the hole and then the stud is tapped down flush wi...

Generally speaking you will find aluminum drive rivets your best solution. They will provide a smooth rounded head that that blends well with the mast extrusion and you will not be using any dissimilar metals that will induce corrosion. Aluminum drive rivets are available in a host of sizes. Best to...

Marv- What you described is a transom plug. They would be too firm to conform to the inside of a thru hull especially with the nibs in the way. Transom plugs come in different configurations and are designed to slip into a smooth brass or stainless sleeve that is mounted in a transom and in bait wel...
