Re: Perfect boat???
Hi Richard, Congrats on a great choice, especially for you! You did some excellent research and looked at numerous boats/designs within your parameters. And then you found what you wanted. This is why I believe there has never really been a " perfect boat "... but some people do find a &q...

Re: no regret here.
... i will never do the sort of sailing the Kerry Deere [sic] has done ... If you are referring to the 3027 times I've been aground, then I hope you never actually do have to do that kind of sailing. BTW "Deere" is a tractor, "Deare" is a sailing boat. sorry for the oversight. i...

no regret here.
not sure if your comment about regret was directed at me, but there's no heavy regret here. some, for sure, but that regret is spread across many of the cool boats i was considering. all boats i considered had great strengths (and some weaknesses). the CD-28, Sabre 28, Tartan 27, Cal 29, Tartan 30, ...

bought a non-CD and would like to do a test
all, i posted a load of questions a while back about a CD28 i was considering purchasing. your answers were great and helped inform my decision. my list of possible boats included a CD-28, a Sabre 28 and a Pearson 28-1. for a variety of reasons, i bought the Pearson. worst use of interior space by f...

Those look to be in fairly good condition. Mine were much the same. A coat of rust neutralizer and primer and a rebedding of the fittings will keep them that way. Those are indeed bonding wires. The access panels are similar to what I've observed on most CD's I had a chance to check out. thanx ron....

Re: Comments
now, my only sticking point on this boat is price. hopefully, the owner and i can find common ground w/o ranker. i just don't have a contentous interaction in me on this deal. rw RW: From the above, I get the impression that you have not yet purchased this CD 28. I am more than a little curious at ...

Those actually look pretty good. While you're in there, you might want to remove, clean, and rebed the padeyes with 4200 or similar to keep them healthy. I got new nuts, bolts, & washers from HamiltonMarine.com when I ...

I know this is probably a really dumb question but did you cut out the access panels/spaces shown in the photos or are the access panels there from time of mfg :?: I noticed that the backing plates each have what I assume is a grounding/lightening wire attached at one of the bolts. the cut-outs wer...

all,
the link above shows images of early CD 28 shroud chainplates. port side inspection required the use of a mirror.
while surface rust is apparant, the plates themselves seem fine.
please feel free to comment.

Re: WM and matching prices
Usually Defender has the best prices. I am not a great believer in taking advantage of WM's price matching. Why not give the retailer with the advertised better price the business? Why should WM get rewarded for price gouging? Defender does have a lousy return policy so be sure you only order what ...

Re: CD 28 sheet winches single or two speed?
that explains the variation i've seen. thanks, so much. RW ... Did earlier CD 28's have 1 speed sheet winches. I know (at least some) lated CD 28's had 2 speeds. If the earlier boats did have single speed winches, when did they switch? ... The CD 28 base boat (early 1980's vintage) did not have geno...

All,

Thanks,

thanx, all
sounds like it's not the end of the world. i guess the determining factor is whether or not the prop shaft can be removed w/o drama.
we'll see.

Re: Shaft Removal on a CD-28 - about an hour best case
thanks for the info. good points, all. btw, did you have to remove the rudder to get the prop off? If so, is it a big deal? RW I suppose it all depends on the condition of the coupling and coupling bolts. I have a bronze shaft and steel coupling with a key which I assembled with either grease or ant...

water flow to cutless bearing
thanx for the responses. 'cutlEss' did indeed produce more results than 'cutlAss'. :-) Also, I found an interesting post about drilling holes to allow water to enter the bearing surface from the side (not just from the end). i know this is normal in many other situations where a shaft spins in a bea...
