Volvo

Russel, thanks for the great pics and detailed information on the installation. Those rear mounts look beefy and you are right, thats sorta the way the Perkins was, mounts higher up and kinda "hanging the motor". Are you able to use the angled transmission?

Russ, that must be the D2-40 and it looks like the straight transmission (not angled). If that is the case will you also be getting a new prop?? As with the Yanmar, the outside of the mounts are 19" apart. On my boat that looked like a very tight fit for the aft mounts without altering the angl...

Bonding

As with others in reply, all of my through hole fittings are bonded to the plate and the engine. In addition, the previous owner set up a set of large zincs to hang (when at the marina where stray current is problematic) over the side. One is wired to the engine (common DC ground) and the other to t...

Mounts

Bernie, Tom Ted and Others, It sounds as though there are several approaches being taken to the mounts. From what I gather in Tom's installation the old pipe beds have been left in place and a modification was made to fit the Yanmar mount. From my measurements it appears the aft monts on the Yanmar ...

Yanmar for CD 36

This string has been dormant for some time now but I am interested in finding out some more information since I too am looking at the new 3JH4E. The Perkins is running great but as with others I dislike the oil leaks and desire the space for the flex tube at the packing. I also just finished rebuild...

Russell, It just looks nasty.

Is the tube a casting? do you have photos so that I can see how nasty it really is?

Let us know how you will proceed.

Stern Tube & Stuffing Box

Greg, thanks for the descriptions. After my post I found a great drawing by the pervious owner showing a longitudinal xsection through the stuffing box, and notes about the 3 ea.1/4" packing rings as well as some custom devices to assist in the process. I would imagine that it will be a tight f...

Russell & all, My CD 36 is '78 and I thought I would contribute to this thread with the set up I have and follow this work to learn & appreciate what you are doing. I first question how you removed the stern tube? As with Greg, my set-up is without a hose. The shaft enters the bronze 1 1/2&q...
