Re: Masking Tape Horror

Canned spray-on shaving soap and WipeOut Eraser are two products worth being aware of.. From Practical Sailor WipeOut Eraser vs. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Nanofiber cleaning pads make light work of deck and hull cleaning. A few months ago, we noticed that our dock neighbors were cleaning their decks wi...

Re: Masking Tape Horror

Some years ago I suffered the same problem. I contacted 3M information. The woman prescribed two products. The first separated the paper from the adhesive backing. The second was an adhesive remover. They did the job. I don't recall the names of the solvents. Call 3M information and explain your pro...

Check out Sugru, self-setting rubber at http://www.sugru.com.
If you can't scrounge some lids you can make them pretty easily with this stuff and a couple of plastic discs.

Re: Spreader Boots

I'm pretty sure this is the right one from Defender. There are three sizes.
Seems to me I lashed the two sides together at the cuffs. Held up well.

Re: Barnacle Build Up on Prop

I have used Petit Zinc Barnacle Spray on my prop, two thin coats applied to bare metal, on the south shore Atlantic side of Long Island for a number of barnacle free years. The bare metal grounding plate on the keel at the end of the season in November is piled high with barnacles in contrast to the...

Ram Mike Mount

I need to talk to a bridge tender on leaving and returning to Jones Inlet. I found that sticking my head down into the companionway to use the mike on the radio when there was strong current and lots of other vessels around waiting to transit the bridge made me very anxious. I mounted my Ram Mic (St...

Why thank you OJ.
That is exactly the same reference I just sent in.
We must have the same research sense.

Galling on stainless steel threads

Here appears an expert reference to galling on SS threads.

(I think that Fred/Fenix's experience also falls into the wisdom column)

Interesting to note that galling does not appear in the dictionary

Radar Reflector Rig

I have ensign halyards rigged from a small block above on the spreaders to a second small block below, attached at the stanchion base with a loop of shockcord. The shockcord acts as a tension spring on the continuous ensign halyard loop. This means that a cleat is not required. You just pull the hal...

Mounting Speakers

I constructed a companionway board with an extension to the side for my GPS MAP 76. Since it is cantilevered out of the way of the companionway passage, to the side, it does not get bounced by traffic to the cabin. I cut a groove on the interior side to hold the power cord securely out of the way of...

Jacklines

One inch tape from the winch stand base to the bow and returning to the opposite side winch stand, lays flat and makes for less tripping than line underfoot which tends to roll. If I need to go forward to the bow in any kind of high waves and I am single handing, I also attach the harness D-rings to...

Signetmarine.com

Thank you very very much Rich Abato. I got it !!! I had made a web search and but did not reach the homepage where the link was for the manual. (searching on signet instead of signetmarine) It was the manual which I didn't have on my hard drive of course. I wasn't able to sort out in my memory the d...

Depth Sounder Signet MK 172

Does anybody have an instruction manual for the Signet MK 172, depth sounder ?
(Cape Dory 25D)

Mine seems to have vanished along with winter and my memory of the program.

Thanks.

Waxing Zinc Coat Barnacle Barrier

Petit's Bulletin says : "Zinc Coat Barnacle Barrier's smooth hard surface will self clean in service." I thought that was like an ablative. I wondered how come you decided to wax it?
