finding an air leak in your fuel system

You might try plugging the fuel tank vent and then pressurizing the whole fuel system with a bicycle tire pump while you check all the fittings/hoses for an air leak. Use liquid soap on the whole system while watching for bubbles. Crude method but might be effective.

How I raise/lower the mast on my CD27

When I raise/lower the mast on my CD27 the only shrouds connected are the two lower aft and backstay. I use a gin pole in my scenario along with a second set of temporary upper shrouds and a bridle that allow the temp shrouds to pivot in the same axis as the mast step hinge pin. The temp shrouds mai...

wire tie spacing

Paul might be suggesting a little bit of overkill on the number of wire ties necessary to quiet down noisy mast wires. I've rewired masts on three different boats boats and got away with 3 wire ties spaced 120 degrees apart about every 4 feet to quiet them down inside the mast.

I talked to Garmin and they said the problem was brought about by the Dept of Defense when changes were made to the GPS satellites about 6 months ago.

dacron for jib sheets

Jib sheets should be dacron...not nylon. Halyards and jib sheets are dacron.

Is this an electric start Honda? If that's the case the wire will need to carry much more than 6 amps.

While 4hp may be fine for calm water, keep in mind that you'll need an extra couple horsepower if you ever try to punch through a 25 knot headwind out there on Lake Superior. Take a look at the Nissan/Tohatsu 6hp motor. They're great little engines

This be the one...and yes, inflation has taken it's toll

As I recall, the CD27 has 1" t-track...take a look at the following URL...or maybe you could be patient and watch eBay for a better deal?

roller furling alternative

If you'd rather not buy a roller furler but still don't want to go up on the bow, have you thought about a headsail downhaul? Years ago I had one on my 23' Sea Sprite. It consisted of a line running from the cockpit up to the bow, through a small block and then up the head stay. When you hoist the j...

Pearson Electra

I didn't see it mentioned in any of the previous posts...but the Pearson Electra is the same hull as the Pearson Ensign...which is one fine boat and still in production if I'm not mistaken. I owned a Pearson Sea Sprite which is similar but not identical. I really enjoyed my SS. Alberg knew his stuff.

my experience with barrier coats

I've barrier coated three different boats I've owned over the past 35 years. The procedure was to strip/abrade the hull in the fall and barrier coat in the spring. The second boat I did was a 1985 CD26 that had literally thousands of tiny blisters between the gelcoat and underlying laminate. I remov...

MIT study - Lightning class sailboat hull drag

Years ago the Mass Institute of Technology tested different hull surfaces for drag. They tested the difference between a buffed versus non buffed paste wax on the bottom of a lightening sailboat hull. The non buffed hull had less drag and was faster than the buffed wax.

Duck boats

FYI - There's still a fleet of WWII duck boats in operation at the Wisconsin Dells. I first rode them 50 years ago and last rode them in 2006. Fun vehicles.

fuel injection pump versus fuel life pump

Chris,
It sounds like you replaced the diaphram operated fuel lift pump...not the high pressure fuel injection pump. A typical high pressure fuel pump would cost in the hundreds, perhaps thousands of dollars and is a very complicated and very precision machine.
