D for "D-day" and for Dunkirk

I've always been fascinated with/a student of WWII, perhaps because my father was a participant. Thinking of D-Day (thank you, OJ, for the reminder) makes me proud of my own country. Thinking of Dunkirk makes me proud of the human spirit in general--particularly, of course, those who sail the seas :-)

Wiring: When 'just right' is too big??

After a number of discussions and liberal libations, we have tackled our wiring problem(s). We are replacing all the mast wiring, both in the mast and inside the cabin. Everything else seems to be OK, although we're cleaning up the panel, e.g., adding a new terminal strip so the ONE ground post will...

Thanks, yall.

We'll give it a go, then, with some hearty yanking and a good dose of soap and water. For the record, we had removed the steaming/deck light fixture, as well as the 'truck', and there is indeed some noteworthy crud. I seem to recall someone lubing/cleaning the external luff groove by hoisting a soak...

Fretting in advance

Warren and I hauled Morveren in April and, so far, have checked several small items off our list, plus one Big One (rudder repair, with the invaluable advice and encouragement of OJ :D ). On to the next 'biggie': replacing (and mostly re-routing) all the mast wiring + coax cable. We're close to bein...

You took the words. . .

Russell,

That same thought DID cross my mind. I'm sure it sounds better coming from another skipper :D

Hanging CD curtains

Hi, Dick. You probably already have the curtain "rods," as the CD's I've seen all use a thin aluminum track above the portlight. The curtains themselves have a plastic-tabbed tape sewn on the back; the tabs simply slide into the slot in the aluminum track. When I was making a set of curtai...

Outcome of Bismarck Dinius case

I believe this was discussed on the board a while back and thought there might be some interest in the verdict (from BOATUS Seaworthy magazine): Seaworthy Extra: Bismarck Dinius Acquitted After seven hours of deliberation, the 12-member Lake County, California jury found Bismarck Dinius not guilty o...

Pictures

Bob,

This sounds very promising, and I'm eager to see your pictures. It would be really helpful if you could post a shot or two of the rivets themselves--I'm having difficulty imagining the Molly bolt--pop rivet hybrid.

Thanks,
Judith

Right on schedule, indeed

Just as Mother Nature planned it all along, no? :) And with salmon as compensation?? That has to go a LONG way to assuaging any ill feelings! (Why do I feel the sudden urge to cook something?) "Patriarch". . .well, it's a dirty job but somebody has to do it. I think the longest-lived and m...
