Rabies!!

Be careful, because bats can and do carry rabies. You might want to check with your health department. Had one in the house (down the chimney, because teh damper was not shut) and the daughters did a catch and release using a plastic container. Then they checked with the county health department, wh...

Is this knowledge or do you have a problem?

Turn the ignition switch on, but dont start the engine and look at the symbols. Believe they use the zig-zag line (lighting bolt) for charging, and the other two I will have to look at my panel to remember, but they should be obvious.

SS polishing

Given the "heft" of the stanchion bases, unless you used a course compound, at high speed, with a lot of pressure, in one spot, and forgot what you were doing, there should be no issue with polishing the bases. Might be what happened w/ OJ. What about the stanchions themselves. You need to...

O.J. and Ohm's Law

The largest wirewound pot that R.S. has, can only handle 3 watts. Using the correct Law, 3 watts at 12v is only pulling 1/4A (across 48 ohms). What size breakers are being tested? The ones I use, are in the 5 to 10A range, which means the load will be dissipating 60 to 120W of power (at 12V), before...

Do you have a specific project in mind?

Also, everyone has different odds and ends on board. Compare prices to places like big box home improvement places, discount stores, odds&ends stores, and the online places. One has to be creative and be planning ahead, though. One can do a lot with a big roll of velco, and various adhesives, an...

Addition to diagram

A second pendant, that is completely indendant from the first pendant should go from teh boat to swivel (not the shackle used by the first pendant!). Both MUST have METAL thimbles on them. Galvanized parts will quickly get a rough corrosion layer on them and any line will abrade, as the line is pull...

Airplane anology, er, actually aluminum anology

We were talking about aluminum in a marine environment, and the official NTSB report concluded that the failure was caused by metal fatigue exacerbated by crevice corrosion (operating in a salt water environment). Kinda sounds like the environment we operate in. All I was saying, was, if you go the ...

Regarding aluminum and airplanes,

anyone remember a certain older Aloha 737, operating in the Hawaiian islands, and the issue it had with corrosion? The aircraft was 19 years old, at the time, in the area of many of our boats. Please dont be complacent about items that are highly stressed, thats all.

Hey, OJ,

Not being argumentative, either, just offering up ideas for the least amount of $$$. If I wanted to start something, I might ask about thoughts on drag on freewheeling vs locked props. But I did not! Question, though, ever stick an ohmeter's probes in the No-Ox-id? My tub of the stuff (NO-OX-ID &quo...

For those who have aluminum,

do you have any stainless fasteners going into the aluminum? That is a big issue, if left untreated.

Do you pull the engine out of the water, when not in use?

The critters could have (partially) plugged the cooling passages, and/or grown around the impeller, and it tore, the next time the engine was started. Check, or have checked the whole cooling circuit.

The Grease

The threaded base of the bulb still has to make physical contact with the socket, to be able to be threaded in (metal to metal contact). The grease is not that thick, a lot thinner that vaseline or anhydrous lanolin. We are not talking about a solid, like teflon tape, even though, teflon tape does s...

And I forgot to post,

Are you SURE all your primer bulb and its hose connections are tight and air leak free. Was just a primer bulb installed or was it a primer bulb and attached hoses. Any factory made connections? Those should be suspect, along with any you made. Check the primer bulb for cracks or breaks in the rubbe...
