Tuesday, 7/4--Oyster Bay, NY

Plan on meeting in the afternoon on Tuesday, July 4th in Oyster Bay. If we get to Oyster Bay early enough and it's not crowded, we should find room in The Cove which is located off the southwestern edge of Cove Neck and southeast of the harbor (Approx. 40°52'38"N 73°30'32W. Click on the chart thumbnail in Figure 1 below for details.). Don't venture too far into The Cove, it gets shallow real fast. If it's crowded, a raft-up may not be possible or safe. Don't forget to bring your dinghy!

If The Cove is too crowded or has been designated as off-limits by the Coast Guard, please anchor on the Cold Spring Harbor side of Cove Neck to the east. (Approx. 40°53'10"N 73°29'16W. Click on the chart thumbnail in Figure 2 below.).

Try to arrive in Oyster Bay as early and as quickly as possible because it’s gonna get real crowded in there for the fireworks and the Coast Guard will close off the channel into the harbor by 8:00 p.m.

The fireworks will be shot off from a barge anchored just north of the northern end of Cove Neck. There’s a Security Zone around the barge, so please give it an extra-wide berth when entering the harbor.

If you are the first boat to get to Oyster Bay, please hail the "Cape Dory Fleet" (VHF Ch. 16/68) and let the others know that you’re there and in which anchorage – The Cove or Cold Spring Harbor. If you’re in Cold Spring Harbor, please provide GPS coordinates if possible. We want to make sure that all the boats end up in the same place.

We'll have cocktails and snacks aboad one of the boats so please don't forget to bring one or two snack items to share with the rest of the group and the fixin's for your favorite beverage. Then it's a potluck dinner. After dinner we'll return to our boats, sit back and enjoy the fireworks.

If you’re a late arrival and the channel into the harbor has been closed, use the Cold Spring Harbor anchorage indicated above and contact the "Cape Dory Fleet" via VHF Ch. 16/68 and let us know where you are. Make your way into The Cove in the morning and join the rest of the group for breakfast.

Wednesday, 7/5--Oyster Bay, NY

On Wednesday, let's get together again aboard one of the boats for a potluck breakfast before departing.
