The Mount Desert Island Float-in,
hosted by the Northeast Fleet, will take place Saturday and
Sunday, July 23-24, 2005. Try to arrive as soon as possible
to ensure that you'll get a mooring.
Located just east of the entrance to Somes Sound is where you'll
find scenic Northeast Harbor. You can't anchor here but the town
rents about 50 moorings which are identified by bright green pickup
buoys with 3-digit numbers on the floats. They vary in weight
so boats 30-40 feet should use the 300 series moorings and boats
20-30 feet should use the 200 series moorings.
Pickup a mooring then check-in with the harbormaster or call
in advance (VHF Ch. 9, 16, 68; 207-276-5737)
and have one assigned. Another 25 boats can be accommodated on
floats moored in the harbor. The moorings and floats can't be
reserved until the day you plan to arrive. The town mooring agent
will come to collect the fee. If the town moorings are all taken,
additional moorings may be available from Clifton's Dock
(207-276-5308) or the MDI Water Taxi (VHF
Ch. 16, 68; 207-244-7312). If you prefer a slip, you
can get one from Northeast Harbor Marina (VHF
Ch. 9, 16, 68; 207-276-5737).
If you'd like to go ashore, row your dinghy to the dinghy floats
farthest north of the marina and parallel to the shore.
The Mount Desert Chamber of Commerce's shingled "Yachtsman's
Building" is right by the marina, with showers (the
key will be in the harbormaster's office after hours), a reading
room, a book swap and newspapers.
This is an informal event so participating crews can decide how
they'll get together for conversation, snacks and dinner Saturday
afternoon and evening. We can either get together for a potluck
or go ashore.
If we decide to do a potluck, let's climb aboard the largest
Cape Dory in attendance, or whichever crews offer the use of their
boats, for snacks, cocktails and a potluck dinner shared amongst
the crews. So please bring snack/meal items to be shared. And
don't forget to bring your preferred beverages! Please help the
"host" crews to clean-up afterwards and offer to row
the trash ashore for them.
If we decide to go ashore our choices are the Main Sail
Restaurant (207-276-5857) at the Kimball
Terrace Inn right on the water on Huntington Road; Northeast
Harbor Cafe (207-276-4151) on Main Street; Colonel's
Restaurant & Deli (207-276-5147) on Main Street;
the 151 Main Restaurant (207-276-9898), also
on Main Street, and the Docksider Restaurant
(207-276-3965) on Sea Street. (Click
here for a land map of Northeast Harbor.)
How about a potluck breakfast together on Sunday morning before
departing?
Please monitor VHF Ch. 16 and 72 for fleet communications

VHF so that you can contact the "Cape Dory Fleet" via

of the crews at the dinghy dock.
There are no registration fees associated with this event. But
please REGISTER
ONLINE or contact Cathy
Monaghan via e-mail or at 732-381-3549 and let her
