Moving On Board - Giving Away Free Stuff
I am moving on board my CD 33 at the end of this month in preparation for my big trip. I have all the issues of Cruising World Magazine from December, 1995 till now. I also have the Commodore's Bulletins from the Seven Seas Cruising Association (real gems) from October '95 till December '97.
I am willing to give these away to a member of this news group. You pay postage. I live in Stamford, CT.
Please let me know if there is any interest.
Cheers.

Derek: When are you starting on your big trip and where are you going? We're curious to know. Whatever your destination may be, we wish you all the luck and good weather in the world... but keep us posted. Not all of us can just pack up and go. By the way, what is your hull #? and thanks for the comment on the honey teak vs. cetol.

Re: Moving On Board - The Trip
Zeida,
My hull number is 46, a 1981 model that I have been lavishing all my spare time and money on! Today I replaced the sewage hose with proper sanitation hose - a messy job but best done when it is cool and not hot and smelly. I also built a manifold out of PVC for the freshwater control "system" under the sink. Galileo came with garden variety gate valves which were junk. I put a filter on the fresh water hand pump for drinking water too.
Anyway, we are heading towards OZ. Hope to be in Australia for the milennium kickoff. Then there is the America's Cup in NZ and the Olympics as well back in Australia. Looks like a full year. I leave August 1 for a shake down cruise to Maine and then turn 180 degrees and start my way south. I figure winding our way thru the Carribean, crossing the Canal, hitting the Galapagos, Tahiti etc will take about a year.
Once I get my email up and running on the boat I will send updates to this newsgroup on how the Cape Dory fares crossing oceans etc, if there is interest.
Cheers.

Re: Moving On Board - The Trip
We're interested like mad, Derek, please keep the information coming on your trip!
Enjoy Maine! My wife who has otherwise never really enjoyed the boat really enjoyed the summer we spent up there with PERI. North of Bar Harbor are some really neat gunkholes to nose about in.

Re: Moving On Board - The Trip/Q for Walt
Derek;
I'll "third" the motion...there isn't a sailor on this board who doesn't dream of taking the trip you're embarking on; and unfortunately, most of us don't get much past the dreaming phase.
Fair winds and St. Elmo's blessings to ye!
Geoff
P.S. Walt, is there some way an ocean-going member of the Club like Derek can have his chronicles linked together as a travelogue, beyond the obvious indented bboard format?

Re: Q for Walt - Posting the Saga
Is Doug going to be on line at sea? Or in communication with someone else that can post or email his chronicles?Geoff Safron wrote: P.S. A well-written essay (or series) of general interest could be published in the California Cape Dory Owners Association newsletter. We had a couple of good articles before the newsletter went on-line, but now that it is also posted in the Web pages, articles are permanently available for browsing.
If something is more timely than waiting for the occasional newsletter to be published, we might find someplace else suitable.
The easiest thing (especially for me) would be to just post them - using a unique keyword in the title of the all messages to allow them to be found by the search function.
