cd25 designer, cd25 outboard

Post by David Evans »

After long obsessive consideration, I decided on a honda 8hp outboard for my cd25. The motor does not fit in the well (it extends too far from the mount, like it will bust through the transom on the boat). Now I'm thinking about the evinrude 8 hp four stroke. Does anybody know if it fits?

In my outboard searches I ran into a guy who worked for cape dory for 20 years or so. He tells me that the cd25 was the second boat the company made (the typhoon was the first), and that they bought the hull from a defunct company. George Stadell designed this hull as the Greenwich 24, then cape dory raised the sheer, turning it into the cd25. According to this guy, Alberg would generally refuse to design boats for them. The routine would work like this: A couple of cd people would go to Alberg's house in Marblehead, MA and ask him to design a particular type of boat. He would say no, then send down a full set of plans three months later. Attached to the plans would be a note saying he would never design another boat. Until the next time someone from cape dory visited him.
